What is the history on this car? Unfortunately I can't put my finger on the image, but I have seen a photo from a sports car race at Elkhart Lake, WI back in the day that includes what looks to be a hot rod being used as a pace car and it had a backwards facing jump seat for, one would assume, a camera man or race official. Anyone know more? Gary

  2. That's Blackie Gejeian's roadster. Pretty sure that "office" chair is just sitting in the background.

I could id this this truck and give a time and place, but I'll send Frank a pm instead, just not interested in participating in the HAMB horseshit anymore.

I did find a bunch more pics of it that day. One pic was a later modification with chromed steelies instead of the full covers... The pic I posted said: 1958 Renegade Show

very cool build. I thought it had a chromed firewall, but it is gold.

I wonder if that exact time was when fenders got painted accents like Ala Kart and others?

I sent you a pm, the info I have shows the car owner as a Renegades member.

  10. It's not a secret, the truck was owned by Ed Cousins, and yes he was a Renegades member and the show was the first (1958) Renegades Rod & Custom Motorama.

  11. Ya there is some horseshit on hear as on all sites...The best thing is not to partake in any of it. As there is a ton of great shit on the HAMB. You just need to be smart enough to sort it out dude......

Found one... check out the einy, tiny hot rod roadster in on the left side of the photo. It appears to be the pace car. But this isn't the image I remembered, exactly. Same race weekend, but a better shot is available. I'm still looking. Gary

Nice shot. One thing I really like about the current vintage road-race scene is that they REALLY respect the history. Most of the drag racers and hot rodders re-write the history to suit their cars, the road-race guys build their cars to fit the history.

image.jpeg I'm thinking that "little hot rod roadster" might be a first series Excalibur. Like this one.

And I think it was the pace car. The first series Excaliber was kinda cool, not as much of a Liberace-mobile as the ones that followed.
