I found some really large digital covers from DRAG CARTOONS. Dropped them together and printed them on .040 aluminum. Then I laid the pattern for the Austin's Door Panels on the sheet and cut it out! Hot Rod Comic Art ON A Hot Rod!...

Hello,

In 1956, our neighborhood liquor store had the best supply of hot rod/car magazines, as well as a massive comic book section. My dad used to drive to the store to buy his newspapers and took us with him. When we rode our bikes to the store by ourselves, the owner knew us from always coming into his store with my dad, so he allowed us to buy a soda or candy bar and read the magazines.

The old car magazines were read first as we could not afford to buy them. But, my favorite comic from when I could read was the “Blackhawk” series. It was a war/action style comic and the only vehicles were jeeps, tanks, and airplanes. The action was outstanding and kept this small kid occupied for hours. Plus, we could afford to buy the Blackhawk comic book, but not the car magazines. So, buying a comic also allowed us to read more car magazines for hours.

I should be irritated with my late mother, who not only threw out my collection of these Blackhawk comics, along with original Superman and Archie comics, but my old Howdy Doody Marionette that was thrown into the trash. In 1965, she said that we outgrew comics and did not play with the marionette for years. It was gathering dust, so out they went without me knowing about it. boooo..

Just the other day, I looked up Blackhawk comics and was flabbergasted to see a 1944 edition on sale for $15k…wow
