First off...Thank you Rbantique, for starting this thread and everyone who has contributed to it. It has become one of my favorite threads to check everyday. I have added a picture from a CHRR program. It is not the clearest picture, but the subject is too cool to pass over. It is a publicity shot of Max Baer Jr. and Donna Douglas, the young stars of The Beverly Hillbillies TV show. The picture was taken in the staging area at San Gabriel Drag Strip along with Don Prudhomme, and the Greer, Black, Prudhomme dragster.

 

Here is a photo I copied from an old issue of National Dragster. The picture caption explains it pretty well. I wish the Retro TV Channel could find this old gem.

I've been looking for years for that old Tycoon show. Tommy Ivo wants it too. I did see it in 1964 when it first aired.This is my favorite thread also.

Tommy Ivo told me when they filmed that Tycoon episode Walter Brennan was in his 70's. So he was so stiff after he got in the dragster that he couldn't get out of it. So they had to loop a rope under his arms and pull him out.Tom said he was afraid they was going to have to cut the car apart.

One episode, "The Great Race" perhaps, centered around drag racing.
It co-starred Tommy Ivo and featured one of his front engine dragsters.
BUT the car he raced at the Pomona Fairgrounds was against my Dad's car, the
Briggs & Cagle AA/FD. It sure would be fun to get any video, photos or info
about that episode. Like I said I'm not sure it was that episode.
The title suggests it was.

it looks as if there still is a market for exploitation car movies. Keep in mind that these new ones like the old ones are seen through Hollywood sunglasses and not the typical life style of 60s/70s car enthusiast. That being said most are fun to watch none the less.

I just went back through the thread and came up with posters or stills for Hot Rod Gang in thread entries 13,14,15,16,24,35,39,63,95, & 128. only have this lobby card of HoT Rod Gang not posted to date.. wish I had more as it was one of the better movies of that period. Plus more randon images. Only for the dedicated Grabowski T with wolf's head in Wire Service

 

I think there is a way to play a movie and take any still scene you want. Like they do on IMCDB.But I don't know how to do it ?

 

Hopefully there is an answer to that out there. Here is the best I can do on the curb race in Hot Rod Gang & the Highway Patrol TV hot rod (only for the dedicated ) plus some other stills from youtube videos. I also dug out the attic the Donna Reed epsode , Wire Service, Running Wild, 2 Tickets for Broadway,Our Very Own ,A Woman of Distinction,Gathering Speed,Popeye hot rod cartoon,And a bunch of others with early hot rod bit parts. All vhs played on tv and photographed with a camera so you will only get a rough idea of what the hot rods are. Check the prior posts as I will add to them where there is room.

 

Thank's Rick !!! I can't belive your tapes survived in the attic.I have some over twenty years old that still play fine .... but they are in my basement.

They will have to do till I get better at it. I have more of them ..late 40s early 50s hot rod clips & will continue if there is interest

 

Found it .. Watched the whole movie again .. funny with the hot rod clip you mentioned . a B+ movie. also added some other images of it on past posts where there was room for more images.

A few more movie's with hot rods are !!! A Time to Sing & The Swinger both have the yellow Happy Days truck.Till the end of time - Village of the Giants - Pom Pom Girls - Tijuna Story - Pit Stop - Hometown USA - Mischief - Hollyood Knights - Van Nuys Blvd. - Joyride to Nowhere with the McMullen roadster. Just a few I thought of.

 

Mamie Van Doren has to be the queen of the early hot rod movies . She was in several..

I had Tijuana Story & Village of the Giants . I think I have " I Want You" or did at one time . I will look in the attic but it is a mess up there and the more I look I get distracted and waylaid looking at comics or old records. thanks for the tips on the hot rod movie clips to look for . I thought I had a MR Ed tv episode too but can't find it . Do you have it ? Also just added some images from I Want You to post #91 & #92. Also will redo the color lobby cards I just added to prior posts when I get the VHS images copied to DVD. The attic was not kind to the tape dueto the heat.

 

Great.. I have never seen that one. But it looks to be the Valley Custom SHop built 1939 Mercury (with 1940 Front end) for Glen Hooker.

 

I have Mr.Ed - Mr Kagel and the Babysitter- Bewitched episode Supercar - The Real McCoys- Life of Riley episode Juvenile Deliquent - all the 77 Sunset Strip episodes with the Kookie Kar plus The Chrome Coffin episode. Gidget episode called Gidget Buys a Hearse with hot rods.Also Peter Gunn with Kookie's T. Fantasy Island with the McGee Scritchfield roadster. Love in a Goldfish Bowl also with the Scritchfield roadster.The Waltons with hot rod.Lassie- Annette Serial - Spin & Marty- Father Know Best - Leave it to Beaver - The Beverley Hilbilles episode Hot Rood Truck - Andy Griffith episode Hot Rod Otis - I've Got a Secret with the Golden Sahara Custom in action. Just some off the top of my head.

 

Love to see some of those images ..play them on your tv and take a picture with a digital camera. the quality won't be the best ..but it will document what hot rods were in what movie or tv show. If you can't post them to HAMB email them to me & i will post them for you. Glad somebody saved a copy of them.

 

When I go to my garage to look for something I end up in there for hours looking at other stuff I run across.

 

I don't have a digital Camera !!! I need to get me one.
