Lasalle will be going behind the Olds, will the long tailshaft be an issue in the ‘51 Chevy coupe? Or should I start looking for a ‘50 Olds tailshaft and housing?

  2. My thinking is that it will work out OK. What is the distance roughly that you have to work with? I've seen some short drive shafts that work like in the early coupes circa 29-31.

Thanks, I just wasn’t sure if the long tailshaft would be weaker than the Olds shaft. I don’t have a measurement yet, I’ll be replacing the rear suspension and rear end in the next couple of weeks.

  4. The output shaft on those Cad boxes albeit quite long are huge in diameter and very rugged. Don't think you will hurt it much unless you are dumping the clutch at 6000 then who can predict what will be the weakest link in the drive train:rolleyes:

Does that driveshaft shown have a slip joint built in? You need it.

Let me be more clear. I realize that it bolts on. What I meant was does your driveshaft have a splined slip joint within the driveshaft itself. In other words is your driveshaft actually two pieces that are connected together by male and female splines to allow the driveshaft to lengthen and shorten as the rear axle moves up and down? It may well be on the end of the driveshaft that's not in the picture.

I just checked, there’s no slip yoke on the driveshaft......

  11. Then put that on your to do list. I used one from an Explorer in one of my builds. There are many choices out there.
