The headlights look awkward on a dark paint car but, on a light coloured car they seem to work ok. Dark paint I'd definitely make covers like the Y-Job. It's begging you for a little cosmetic!
I’m still making decisions. I bought a 56 Dodge grill and it should look similar to this Merc. Also fell into most of a 52 Desoto grill just now. Those grill teeth are over-used, but they look so good. Might find more parts and swap later. I like the shape of the Dodge for now.
I recommend the Gene Winfield floating bar grill, below, clean and 50's correct, grills like the one above were not popular until the 80's
They were used in the 1950's. I guess it depends on your definition of "popular". https://kustomrama.com/wiki/Tommy_Inouye's_1950_Ford
It was done occasionaly like the above 50 and 51 Ford, but it it doesn't look good, kind of like it's missing one front tooth
John, thanks for your input. It’s really too early to explain, but I might build something like this down the center. Bear with me. This is a long-term project and I have other priorities. Do you approve of candy green with gold scallops? Too early for that decision also.
I was all hepped-up to get my new wheels and tires mounted today. Almost completed, when I came to the inevitable roadblock. The cheap, used wires required adapters. I realize now, why the stock wheels have these bumps between the studs. Time for a little machine work.
Getting the wheels on, looking better already. I think this lowered the car maybe a couple inches, more to come. I also have these wheel covers I could run. Next, I have this bright idea that I can widen that white wall with my grinder.
Hey Rand Man, It is great to see you got the Lincoln back and are fired up about it. AND, it is even greater to hear you are doing much better. I don't know if you remember, but, I came and looked at your Ford and ran into an incident on the way to your house. (I sure wish I wouldn't have let that car get away) I am still here in NWA and always willing to help and learn. If I can ever come give a hand please let me know. I hope to see you soon.
That was a popular HAMB how-to thread theme many years ago. You've been here long enough to remember that.
Yeah, I thought about it but didn’t ever think I could pull it off. Didn’t want to mess up a good set of tires. Now I see the trick is to have the tire and wheel mounted on the car and rotate the wheel while you hold an angle grinder, steady with a flap disc.
Does anybody know the trick to remove this front fender side trim? This side was already broken, so I just helped it along. I can cut the rest of this off with a grinding wheel. Just thought I might try to save the other side in case somebody wanted one. I can’t get to the nut on the backside. Photo doesn’t make a whole lot of sense but I’m talking about the side, trim stud and nut directly in front of the front doors.
Yeah, there absolutely should be. I looked for one the other day and didn’t find it. I’ll look again. Thanks a lot.
Unclebrad did some photoshop work for me. I think he did a great job! There will be a few changes, but this is really in the ballpark. Thanks Brad. My wife made it clear in no uncertain terms, that the green stripes look stupid. I’ll have to think it over as to whether I should paint the car a color she approves or find a new wife. I considered letting her know that the outfit she chose to wear to church last Sunday looked ridiculous, but decided against escalating the situation.
How about some 55 Olds Headlights with the eyebrows? Seriously funny about the wife’s outfit! Looking good so far Rand Man
I love 55-56 Olds headlights. I’ve thought about using the whole tops of the fenders/eyebrows from a 57 Ford or 56 Lincoln, with custom headlights. This is my busiest time of year at my job, so I haven’t accomplished as much as I want on the car. My basic plan is to drive it pretty much stock, lowered, with wire wheels for stage one. I will paint the car one color. Then I’ll make some headlight covers. The more radical custom touches will come eventually.
