i would like to put 1950 ford trunk hinges on a 29 ford coupe . just wondering how thay will work , will thay bind ? my gas tank filler is in the trunk so the lid has to open up good . any help or advice would be appreciated . thanks
They have quite a long support underneath to accommodate the spring. We recently fitted some 50 hinges to our 49. Externals to internal sprung hinges. The springs are quite stiff. Though could be softened by moving the anchor point closer to the hinge. They should clear the tank about 2 1/2" deep . Why not fit 49 type externals as you have a very light lid.
Nothing can beat the simplicity, looks and function of the Model A trunk pivots. I say, dont put 50 hinges on it. If you do you are just creating work for the next owner to repair the damage
50 Ford trunk hinges don't have any springs etc, at least not here in the US. Since Kiwi4d is from New Zealand their 50's might be different. Ford didn't go to the newer hinge here until 1951. Take Kiwi4d advice and use 49 or 50 USA hinges unless you want hidden hinges.
