Tried doing a search but couldn't find. Planning on doing brake upgrade to disk in front. I have 14" all around now will have to go to 15. See the original 1950 were either 670x 15 or 710x 15 , with new sizes what is a good fit with out going to big. Right now my back 14's are 215x60x14, on 73 chevelle rear end/brakes. There's plenty of head room but kind of snug between brake drum and fender when taking off.
225/75 r 15 is about all that will fit easily on the rear check your backspacing on the wheel . You need to lift the chassis and hang the rear end and not put your jack under the rear end .Should give you the height and looks good. Used to take chevy centers knock the rivets out and put buick rims and reverse them and stick 8.20-15's on my 51 hardtop. Before you could get custom wheels.
I believe my sons '50 has 215/75-15 on it. Original 15 inch wheels. They look like 6.70s would look. Ican check tomorrow.
My '51 has 205/75/15, but I have a 3 1/2" offset "reversed wheel" ...... close enough to the fender where the skirts will rub the tires on turns. Skirts are left off the car.
Thanks for the information. Don't the stock rims have a 3" off-set? Right now with the 14's on the back I have hang rear-end for clearance between hub and fender when removing. Been thinking of maybe just changing the fronts for now to 15" when I up-grade disk brakes and booster because of $$$$$
No, the stock offset is not 3". It is only 9/16" of an inch, certainly not much of an offset on factory wheels. See the chart below from GM Heritage files.
I run 14" all around on my 51. with a 73 camaro ft. clip on the car. The wheels are very close to the disk brakes but they do fit after a bit of grinding on the calipers.
I have 15/6 Speedway rally wheels with 205/70 x15 tires on my 1952 2 dr. Skyline Deluxe. They clear on the front (Camaro clip) and rear (Camaro rear on Posies springs)
Update on rims. Started installing disc brake kit today, did one side mainly to see what my 14" chevelle rims would do, they fit perfect, saved some $$$$$
Probably 71 Chevelle Disk brake wheels to begin with. I had similar wheels on my 51 Merc with Camaro subframe and Chevelle rear for a long time.
There either 71 or 73 chevelle rims. I like how the car squats with the lower profile 14", glad I didn't have to change for the looks and $$$$
