I need to reattach my id data plate to door pillar on my 1949 pontiac but can't find info of what is right way. I have seen flat head screws and rivets. Figured rivet correct since permanent but seen lots very old looking flat head sheet metal screws. If rivet what style? Regular run of mill rivet?

This topic has been discussed before. Some people had issues with their local DMV with data plates attached with the wrong screws, rivets, "pop rivets" etc. I would research how it was attached from the factory and try to get as close to those as possible.
