Hey , I need some ideas for a 49 Plymouth Business coupe, '50s mild custom style , have chance to pick one up. Thanks, please post pics
I saw one a few years back that was really cool. Metallic Orange with basic no body mods, no shaving, no chop, no frenching... It was lowered probably 3" in the front and absolutely slammed in the rear. It was bad ass. The tail dragger stance really accentuated that long-ass truck.
Yeah, this one is sub framed , big block Chevy , th400 , Nova rear . Will probably yank out bbc and put in a 283 or 327.
there's a bunch of Threads on updating 46-54 Mopars. If there's big block in it, change it to a 440 or 340.
All that Chevy stuff might not be ideal, but if it’s done right and the price is right grab it! Drive the heck out of it while making it your own.
Theres a nice one on FB marketplace in lubbock tx. Its not custom yet but looks cool. I was going to check it out but no back seat for kiddos. Ill post a pic shortly. Sorry its a 47. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/2521894047853347/
If that's Titled as a '49, it an early one, a continuation of the '48 model. The '"real" '49 (today it would be called a 49 1/2) is somewhat different design.
Which version of a 49 Plymouth do you have, the early version, or the late version? They are completely different cars. The high & the Mighty is the late version, but I'd be guessing that style is probably not what you had in mind for a light custom. Post up pictures of your car, and maybe a few thoughts on the way you would like to go, then maybe we can help you. My coupe is what the early version liiks like (mine is a 48), it also is probably the mild custom look your after, but maybe it is? Gene
I guess so, other then the one I posted, I don't see many other "mild custom" pictures. Maybe you need to post up a few. Gene
You may know this, but that car is a Dodge Business Coupe....different body shell, note the canted B pillar, longer wheelbase, etc. Though I have had a couple of Plymouth Business Coupes in the past, I do like the B pillar on the Dodge. Regardless of door pillar, I prefer the ‘49 models shorter rear fender to the extended trailing edge on’50 and later. Any of them make a nice build though....best wishes with your acquisition. Ray
