Features 1949 - 1951 Mercury Parts/ Reproduction Parts List

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Pro Stock John, Feb 4, 2009.

  1. I second the detroitiron CDs as being first class.
I have many of them of various cars.
The '49 to '51 Lincoln one is my favourite of course.

  2. Anybody use Job lot automotive inc www.joblotauto.com 1949-1959 ford cars they have a lot of stock parts & really good prices. Haven't ordered from them yet, but I will be soon. Lots of Merc parts also.

Job Lot has been around forever and a lot of their inventory is NOS stuff they bought through the years from old dealerships. A lot of there stuff for Mercury cars is newer or reproduction stuff but their prices are hard to beat. There Ford inventory is quite substantial.

Im looking for some feed back on the "factory style" rockers from motor city hi performance. Or any other source for rockers for that matter. I'm getting ready to start a 50 merc project for a friend of mine, I can't wait it's gonna be a good time.
    Anything would be help, thanks

There is some decent stuff out there for 2-door coupes. Sport sedan 4-doors best thing going is from Mike Dundon "Green Mountain Parts". I don't see much offered from him on flea-pay anymore (MikeStude). A person would have to give him a call. The 4-door stuff can be made to work but not as "ready to go" as the 2-door stuff.

No modern repop's for sale here, but have afew NOS and NORS parts. Mostly VR's and some mechanical parts, gas pedals and internal shift tubes for the 3 spds. Sorting through the stuff slowly and hope to have a full list by Christmas. Rod

  8. Another is indicating that Bill Papke is going to sell off his stuff and close up, due to health reasons:

Bill as many know is pretty old and has been the Merc and Shoebox parts biz for many years. I think he still owns the Mercury from the movie Grease. If anyone talks to him soon please find out how he is doing. I might call him tomorrow myself.

The two on the bottom are part of my signature. The links that you added to the first page don't work. I think it's because when the links are displayed in my post, they are shortened or abbreviated. When they get cut and pasted, they aren't the full link. Maybe just add a note "See reply #159 for useful thread links".

  12. It was posted in another thread that Bill Papke died of cancer. RIP. Not sure if his place is still open, Bad Bob would probably know.

I purchased some stuff from Bill just a while back. I hope he is having a good time in the hereafter. I also hope all those good parts he collected find a place. Mercury owners/restorers have one less place to look for the time being unless someone in his family takes up the business or finds a buyer for all that stuff. I know I'll miss having him to fall back on for parts and information.

What sheet metal do you need.

  16. Updated the Bill Papke info and also added Townsend Customs to the list as Matt is now making all sort of sheetmetal to restore these cars.

I was told recently by another Merc owner to contact Chris Robbins who used to advertise in Hemmings. He hails from Pennsylvania and has a lot of scrapped out Mercs of the 49 to 51 vintage. I was wondering if you knew him or how to contact him? thanks John!

  18. You're asking in the right thread, maybe someone will know.

I always wondered about the Mad Greek guy too, I had talked to him and it sounded like he had a few cars. Matt Townsend sometimes has stuff too.

Great thread! That is a lot of work to keep this current and very much appreciated.
As info I have been collecting and building 49-51 Mercs for over 45 years and have lots of info and parts for sale. You can add my info to your list if you want.
    Thanks again.

  21. Can you share a little more info like an email, first name.

My name is Dave Carroll and I'm in Omaha Nebraska. I got rid of most of my sheet metal but have a lot of the smaller hard to find pieces. Like used dashes, dash clusters, suspension parts, trim pieces, some NOS outside stainless, garnish moldings, original glass (49 3 piece rear window), etc. Mostly 49 & 50 stuff but I do have some 51 pieces. I have three 5 gal cans full of Merc nuts and bolts taken off cars over the years. Some of these are hard to find castle head bolts, hood hinge bolts etc. Members can contact me at [email protected] with their want lists.

I am looking for the tiny clips that hold the outside window stainless on the pinch weld around the windows on 49 and 50 Mercs. Anybody have any or know where I can get them. Last thing I need to finish my car and I refuse to glue them on!

I am getting ready to rebuild most of the front suspension and steering on my 51 mercury. Will be my first time. Purchased most of the parts from Mac (tie rods, drag link, idler arm, shocks). Couple items I can't find are upper/lower control arms bumpers and bushings for stabilizer bar, and coil insulators. Just to clarify, Mac and carpenter show these parts only for ford 49/51. Would anyone know if they are interchangeable? Also I did call Mac and asked if they were interchangeable and customer rep said yes. I wasn't convinced (customer. Rep sounded like he gave an f) so double checking with experts here on Hamb. Any help is appreciated.

The FORD coil insulators are not interchangeable with the Merc parts since the Merc springs are a little bit larger in dia. Notice the part # Pre-fixes are different too. I used a piece of 5/8 in. heater hose instead. Apply dish soap to the inside of the heater hose and you can slide it on to the first coil at each end of the Merc spring. You can use clear plastic hose from Home Depot too, but it may harden over time. Try www.mercuryland.com for the other parts. I know they sold off a lot of their inventory, but maybe they have some rubber parts left. Also, if you go to the "HELP" section of Pep Boys, AutoZone, etc. you may find upper control arm bushing that will fit into the frame with just a little trimming. I saw them used on a stock 51 Merc. I also have a stock 51 Merc sway bar where I used Prothane bushings and the stock Merc uprights. I never used it. PM me if interested. Click on photo to enlarge.

    Hi
I'm after the complete front windscreen stainless surround and centre bar if anyone can help. Also after an overdrive trans for the flatty
    Thanks
    Neil

  29. On the trans, 49/50 or 51? 51 is different and all by itself.
