  6. These caps are the best looking cap for an early custom. Still keeping an eye out for a reasonable set for my ride...

I like this cap a lot too but I have to say a 57 Lincoln premeir cap is right up there at the top next to it.

Hey John, do you have any pictures of your car aired up at ride height?

  18. Agree with original post and then some- the '57 is to my eye a tinny looking, fussy affair. Perhaps they'd pop with some paint detail in the flutes, but you never see it done.

The sombrero is definitely my favorite cap. I draw them a lot, on custom concepts, almost automatically:eek:. Luckily, my Holden has a very sombrero- ish hubcap as stock. A lot of the trim detail on early Holdens was Cadillac studio- derived.
Just look at the beauty of the sombrero on this '50 coupe de ville..

  19. I rarely park it with the bags up,only for driving. It goes up about 3 inches front and back.

Ah i see. I was just wondering.

Your car is flat out beautiful. Do you have both the roadster and the car in your avatar? Youre living my dream, man ;)

i was thinking, these caps only fit certain rims right like caddy rims? They won't bolt on chevy or ford wheels will they?

Does anyone know if they were stamped in one shot,or were there multilpe dies? Are the stainless caps 18-8 or 304?

I can't elude to the details of the stamping process but the original hubcaps are chrome plated steel and they are fairly heavy as far as hubcaps go. The inner "cone" on the inside of the cap is a seperate piece attched with spot welds. The aftermarket caps being offered by McVeys are stainless (except for the inside cone) and are much lighter in comparison to the originals. I have both types of caps, originals and the repops.

I like the originals but I have yet to find a set nice enough to satisfy me.
