The car looks absolutely fantastic! It's hard to believe how much difference the trim makes.

Are those Guide spot lights on the '51? Were you able to find patterns for them as well? (I'd like to install a set on a '50 Chevy.)

The '51 had unity spotlights. The smaller option, cant remember which.
I didnt have patterns, just kinda went for it.
They go through the door , not the post

    Just scrolled/read the complete thread!!
How cool is this car man, I love the stance.
You gonna leave it like this, or paint it someday just like your big example?

It is definately going to be painted in the future.
Even before it gets painted it will get a nice coat of sealer primer after I do most of the bodywork. Ill drive it like that for a little while.
But yes, it will be a shiny black someday :)

  15. shiny black? perfect choice! greets, '42 Streamliner.. :)

I would paint it with lacquer but I'm not going to be able to park it in a garage.. and you know what happens to laquer when its always left in the weather. Am I wrong?

Almost done with the trim holes!

Thanks again to Roger O'Dell for helping me out with the bumpers and rocker trim (and the spotlight).

Now I have nice shiny bumpers. I will put on the rocker trim tomorrow.

The bumper is very nice. Are you going to run the guards on it?

I have.. I whooped another Civic, its always more pleasing when the guy has his girlfriend with him when he gets left in the dust. I also beat a new "custom" pickup today. He was the best competition I've had, but I still left him behind by the time I was in 4th :D

Don't go thinking I'm always racing people, its only been those three times... and they asked for it :p

I am going to run the guards. Most early customs kept the guards on the bumpers.

I might be going to Mooneyes. I'm going to Santa Maria for sure. I'm going to try to hit all the main car shows. Might even take it to the Lone Star Round Up in TX.

Took it for a cruise out to Fallon to take my gal to the corn maze and pumpkin patch.
Stopped to take a picture at this awesome abandoned gas station. In the booming city known as Hazen, NV!

  26. That would be awesome, we have several traditional 41-48 sleds in the works here in Texas.

Well, I put on the new rear bumper. Had to cut off every bumper bolt to get the old one off.

Put on rocker trim, I know I have a driver side piece on the passenger side, I was accidentally sent two driver side pieces. Its all right though.

NOW..... I'm having a really hard time with the Appletons.
I tried to mount them using the patterns Sledge sent me, and both the 41 and the 42 patterns sent the spotlight through a gauge or something.. :(

Hey Kevan, if I drive to your 'kustom krib' will you help me put them on??? haha....

Anyone have any input? At this time I'm just giving myself more practice welding by drilling unneccesary holes..

My dad and I just looked at our rocker trim, sadly I also have two drivers side trim. Someone once told us passenger side fenders, trim etc are more difficult to find replacements as that side tends to be hit more often. Don't know how true that is.

  29. Not very easy to do ,unless you have done a bunch .I had a guide that Jim Mcneal made me offthe Hirohata but it put me a Lil low.The Hirohata has a little bit different treatment then my original upper hood does.Mine still came out a hair low but I like the look.

We just started with a tiny drill bit and had someone check the angle of the bit from far away before we slowly started drilling. If the angle is looks right ( of the long drillbit) then go for it.....just go real slow.I got mine as close to where the Barris shop drilled Bobs for that right look.Im sure there were plenty of templates for my car but at that time I didn't know much better.
Car is looking real good :).
