Nice build, if your looking to get rid of the bungiee cord trunk holder find an old dodge or plymouth diplomat police car they have heavy duty trunk releases. One wire switch as the lock grounds itself...I found a Mopar trunk lock loop portion which we welded to the floor...works like a charm, the police lock pops all the time. We weled the lock hole but you could modify one to fit a lock.

Jaws just turned me on to this thread....
I miss seeing him cruising around Maui in the '46, but I really like what you are doing with it!
Hang on to it for a long time, I didn't on a couple of past rigs and now regret letting them go....

As I have family in Susanville, I fly into Reno pretty often, maybe we can connect
on one of my trips, would love to see that car again!
    Aloha,

I drove the 46 to Monterey CA for my lady's birthday. We had a lot of fun.
    the car ran great.

I had some starter problems, but I finally got it shimmed just right so it works now.

Heres some pictures by the ocean.....

With the th350 I decided I didnt want a lokar floor shifter, so I went with the Limeworks column shifter for a more 'original' look.
I got the "39 Drop" from them, but in order to make it work in my car I had to turn it around.
The backside of the drop was just left as raw aluminum with square corners.. since it normally wouldn't be seen.
I filed down the edges and polished it and I think it looks much better now.

    The front:

    The back:

    Started with a coarse file..

    Then fine...

    Sanding sanding..

And buffed. I could have polished it more but I like the way it looks like this.

    WOW!!!!

In my minds eye, I saw it looking something like this, but just didn't see the picture clearly.

YOU have a great bit of talent. SO very very very very glad you have that car.

Got a gas tank out of a 63 Comet. It has about 6 more gallons so that will help on my long distance trips ;)
An accurate fuel gauge will be nice too...

I will be installing it once I burn up most the gas thats in the one in the car right now...

Took out all the heater A/C mumbo jumbo that didnt really work. Will be going with a vintage simple under dash heater with new guts (fan)

Took buddy for a ride today, poor old guy is starting to go deaf :(

    More to come soon.

Great execution, and you're enjoying it as you build. You'll like the Falcon gas tank, I did something similar with my old '41 Chev convert sedan, I used an early 80's Caprice tank that I hammered the flange flat on. Held 20+ gallons, and "fixed" the rusty trunk floor. Love the car!

  19. I love seeing this car in action. Great lines and it just has the 'look'. Your solution to the updated column shifter looks perfectly at home on there.

    Keep up the great work.

    Small update..
    I put a 16 gallon tank out of a 63 Comet.
The old tank started leaking a bit and 10 gallons wont get me across the desert!

I ran new fuel lines and all that jazz just for the cheap insurance..

I painted the trunk/tank all black today as well, I couldn't get a good picture with my camera phone.

    Oh yeah...

I got a new friend to help with the car.

My band is going on a short Southern California tour this weekend, hopefully when I get back I can start on the bodywork.. :D
