Projects 1946-48 Chevy front fender modification

Discussion in 'Traditional Customs' started by 8bbl427, Sep 29, 2022.

  1. I have a 1946 Chevy coupe. I love the rear end of this car and the grille. I’m not a fan of the huge fenders that extend into the doors. Has anybody modified fenders to look more like 1941 Chevy fenders? I think that would remove a lot of visual length and weight from this car.

I can't help with your question I agree with you on the fender/door extension. It just looks weird, in my humble opinion. Having a '41 myself, I might be a bit biased.

You probably could. I know 41 fenders will not fit without a huge amount of modification. and I do not think it would be that easy to shorten the fenders using the extensions.

You could probably slice and dice and slide the piece off the door up into place where you had a weld seam a couple of inches out from the edge of the fender where it comes in contact with the hood. The back would have to be far enough forward so the door opens and misses it, about where the seam is now and you would have to make a filler panel to fill in the gap you left between the cut off part of the fe 47 Chevey coupe green side shot (2).jpg nder and the door.

That said I've always liked those years because they have the extension as it looks more custom than the other way.

That is one nice looking blue Chevy coupe, do you have anymore information on it?

I'm with you...I had my '46 Coupe for many years. It was not my favorite after owning a '37 and
'40 Chevy, but the price was right. Did a "panda bear" rattle can paint job on the fender to
try to minimize the look. Kind of turned into a Mayberry fun car....

We need someone good at photoshop to fix the blue one so we can see what it would look like.

This is kind of like, damn she’s got a nice booty but I wish her breast were smaller. It’s a package deal, not the 20’s where women wrapped there upper portion to look smaller.

I may be going against the grain here but....
Changing the front fenders would really break up the symmetry in my opinion. What would you do about the width? wouldn't shortening them make them look fatter from some angles?

These cars make fantastic customs, how about full fadeaways?

Thats what I meant in my last post, this enhances the symmetry as opposed to shortening them. Beautiful job.

Chop it, then it doesn't look so long. 20211002_151140.jpg

  18. Thanks for the photoshop work! Great ideas from everybody. Think I will need to learn to love it as is or move on to a different car.
