I recently purchased a 41 Pontiac Torpedo and cannot find a VIN Tag on VIN number on it. Any ideas where these numbers might be ? Thank you! Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
The data plate should be on the firewall. Check the top of the driver's side front frame near bumper iron for a serial number, it might be a feint stamping? Most bodies were manufactured at a Fisher Body plant close to or adjacent to the Pontiac assembly plant. e.g. The above is a 48 Pontiac 48 prefix identifies year of manufacture (1948); 26 identifies Pontiac Division of GM (Model 26 - 6 cylinder); 07 identifies style (Dynamic sport coupe), an intermediate 'B' body (122" wheelbase); and D suffix identifies it as a deluxe model. Frame number (Not actually VIN) for above reads K6PB**** K is manufacturing plant; 6 is engine cylinders; P is 1948; B is Streamliner; and **** is the sequential production number. 1941 was the last year American-built Pontiacs had the engine number different from the serial number. Starting in 1942, the engine number was the same as the serial number. For a Canadian-built DeLuxe six, the VIN for a model 2527 was 12527-00001 (& up) for the Oshawa plant and 12527-80001 (& up) for the Regina plant. This decodes as - 1 - 1941 model year 2 - Pontiac 5 - DeLuxe 27 - 6-pass sedan coupe Engine numbers were W-32022 to W-40238. http://www.earlytimeschapter.org/1941.html
