As you know, I am trying hard to make my Jack Stewart car as true to the year 51 as possible. and one of the things I need to do that, is a pair of the rare 41 Ford and Mercury long skirts. I bought a pair of skirts on ebay, and when they arrived here..it doesnt look right! after 4 weeks a set of the rare 41 skirts came up for sale, and i bought them right away. my luxury problem, is that I know have to pair of skirts..in exactly the same size!! so heres my question! does anyone know the total length of these skirts. maybe 'just' the length of the 42-48 skirts would be good for comparison! any help is appreciated...either I now have two pairs of 42-48 skirts..or even better two pairs of 41 skirts! how cool would that be! heres my skirts..101 cm must be like 39 inches! heres the Ed Jacques 42..picture from Rikster Custom car Blog. thanks Rik! they do look the same to me! thanks -Palle
Hey Palle, Rik contacted me,mentioned you needed dimensions.I will take some pics w/measurements Friday after work.DAVID
The once on David's (BanditoMerc) Ford are: 34 3/4",lower lip, tip to tip. (thanks for taking the measurements David) They look to be the 42-48 Ford units which are shorter than the 1941 models.
thanks guys! if Davids are 34 3/4...that would be around 87,5cm. looks good so far! Thanks David! -Palle I don't think they could be any longer than this!
I pm'ed Deron..and hope is going to chime in when he see this! also i got this templet from TINWOLF in sweden, and will try take a closer look at it tomorrow! -Palle
Denny Hall uses fiberglass - for now - skirts on his Donn Lowe 1941 Ford Coupe. My guess is those are the same as Bob Drake had on the Jack Stewart Ford at one time. And my guess is that who ever manufactured those patterned them after the original long 1941 Ford skirts. The one on Denny's Ford are 101.5 cm or 40 inches long.
thanks Rik! Jerry if you need more info..just let me know! I do believe that my skirts are the sought after 41 long skirts...40 inches long! not bad at all!... -Palle
Palle, The '41 skirts were called "box skirts". They have pieces of metal on the skirt back side that locate the skirt to the fender. I have a set of (UUUGGGGHHHH !) fiberglass skirts and they look just like the metal skirts that will be used on my chopped '41 Business Coupe. The skirt rest on the outsied of the body and not in the actual fender opening. I am sure glad that I got the metal set though. Dave
Hi Dave...i have a pair of those fiberglass skirts too. they actually look good, and are the exact same size! please show us a picture of the ones you have. maybe length.. thanks palle
