Have been MIA for a while but my Pops and I acquired a 1940 Willys Coupe, formerly an A Gas car named "Varmit" that ran on West Coast. It was painted and nearly ready to run when we picked it up out of Texas. However, my insane desire to build another car took a turn when I took this 40 apart and now it is a full build. The body had been damaged pretty bad over the years, pretty sure it was on its side at one point, fenders had been welded to body, front end all welded together. Needless to say its a big project. It will be getting a big inch 392 Hemi and 5spd Lenco, kind of a hybrid gasser build I guess Id say. Ill post pics soon

Is this going to be a modern-era style build? ... or a '60's style built car, with the rear fenders opened up and the tires hanging out in the breeze.

    I built this one in 2004: 10994451_1552714888338636_1671978126140460020_n.jpg

I'm calling it a hybrid because it will have a lil bit more tire than was available in 60s, also gonna run a hair pin front suspension as well as the Lenco 5spd. So a more modern take on a gasser. Yes the fenders will be opened up to accommodate the 12.0x15 pie crust slicks

  10. That's going to be a bitchen Willys. I hope you keep that hilborn four port injector hat. There not to popular on gassers, but I think it looks sweet.

I'm sure the guy you bought it from is shaking his head wondering just what exactly is wrong with you, tearing apart a perfectly good car.

    Wow you guys are serious.
Gonna look better and BE so much better when you're done.

The thought occurred to me that when building such an iconic car, I imagine there are no doubts that all the effort is absolutely worth it.

The doors were butchered pretty good, I'm almost there on drivers door. Saving them by sacrificing some sedan doors.

Ok, things are going slow waiting on parts. But I was able to get both doors done minus the window tracks, which I'm dreading lol I also made a patch panel for roof area near weld seam

Please post pics as 'full images', makes it much easier for 1/2 blind folks such as myself to admire all your hard work.

When you upload then there is an option to either post thumbnails or full images just under the pic in the upload box or you can do all of them at once. Just make sure your cursor is where you want the pics to appear in the thread.
