Projects 1940 ford coupe build

I worked to get the reveal on the body to line up, at the door to quarter panel gap, with the shims. This probably helps with the getting the trim to line up.

 

My door latches are 1/8 higher from side to side. Lol

You are definitely invested. Lol. Take time to celebrate the small victories. That’s what keeps me going.

 

A little mock up just to see if things are going to work. I was told the seats are from a Hudson Terraplane. Who knows? Also spent some time blocking the doors.

 

Working on the steering today. Should have it finished and in place soon.

 

Blasted some parts the other day. Welded the radio and clock hole shut. Trying to get the dash painted and steering put back in the coupe on a cold winter day.

 

Finished the heater and added a 12v motor and some hammer tone paint. Thanks to the HAMB for the NAPA part number. All I had to do is cut a little bit of the shaft off. I can do without a heater but my wife will appreciate it on the chilly nights. Also got the first round of small parts painted.

Started putting the sound deadening material in. This stuff works nice, is cost efficient and actually looks good enough to show off up under the dash. I chose this brand because it is black.

Spent some time sealing seams and prep work on the door jams. I also cut the undercarriage out from a 4 door front seat and altered it to work as a mounting platform for the early Hudson Terraplane seats. (At least thats what the guy that sold them to me said they were from). They seem to fit nice and it gives the car a nice old school feel.

 

Final fit on the trunk lid before blasting and straightening.

 

Looks good! Did you try it with the trunk seal it can sometimes make a difference?

 

I did. The Picture is shown with the seal taped in place. Makes a big difference

 

Looks great, and those seats are a perfect fit and look right at home in the car.

 

Painted the jams and edges today

 

Lacking ambition today and figured I’d dive into the steering wheel.

My glass came from Bob’s Glass this week (best price) so I figured I would get the dash together and install it after I put the glass in. This will give a little more room to work the windshield into place

 

That Classic Instruments gauge panel looks excellent. I purchased the same unit for my PU, nice seeing one installed. Great work BTW.

 

A heads up, if you are installing a headliner do not install rear glass (w/new gasket) because you need to glue all around the opening and then put the new gasket in with the glass, I already had my glass in with a new gaskets so I had to cut the gasket out and then reinstall a new gasket and re-installed the glass!

 

So... How's progress since April ?!

Just stumbled on to your project. Such great looking work. I've used JBWeld for steering wheel repair and wasn't all that pleased with its longevity.

Have you used the PC-7 before and had good luck? I notice you ground out cracks all the way to the metal and that you put the epoxy back in layers. If I may, how thick can you put it in and have it solidly/cure properly. Was sanding all by hand?
