Well I jumped in with both feet on this one. It's a 1940 Buick Century Style No# 40-4619 with double fender well spares. My parents fell in love with the car 20 something years ago, but the owner at the time wouldn't sell. He later sold the car to a friend of ours and by that time dad had already moved on to building a Studebaker. I recently asked our friend how much he would have to have to let it go, and when it came down to it well it cost 2 Pepsi's and a Snickers bar. Now mind you this car has been sitting in the field for 26 years but was regularly oiled lol (he poured oil over it every month to keep it from rusting).

We've had the car about 2 weeks, but we've already got a motor and tranny, front clip, and rear end. and since we had a long weekend and finally had majority of the oil washed off we tore into it. She's ready to be sand blasted this weekend.

I am looking for some pieces if anyone can help point me in the right direction. I'm needing a grille, running boards, both rear fenders, front and rear bumpers

The body actually looks pretty solid.Maybe the POs "oiling" helped. What engine and trans are you going to use? The straight eight or something newer.

  3. Cool car, but it must have a nice smell! Did he also oil the interior?

Bought an LS motor and trans straight out of about an 06 chevy pickup. I love the look of the straight eight but really want to go fuel injected since its probably going to be my daily driver. all the chrome and interior was pulled before it went to the field and has been stored the plan is to pick it up this weekend when we go over to sandblast.

This is where we are at with it right now. Got the new front clip under it finish welding it in today. Been chipping away at the inner fenders to fit the new front suspension. Trying to decide the best way to go on the rear suspension. Tossing the idea around of leaf springs, 4 bar, triangulated 4 bar, or coil over just dont know which way to go any advice

Ended up narrowing the frame at the rearend to be able to get a wider tire under it. Put the rearend and leafspings on it out of a s10, and got the motor mounted.

Looks good but you may want to only show the more traditional side of things here, looks like you are in a pro shop???

Look I just want to showcase a project. And several of the people on here have been able to help me locate parts i otherwise couldnt find. Nope this our own shop. My dad runs a window tint shop out of one side and i run a tshirt print shop out of the other and the back is for our toys. Dad was a machinest for 20 years and can fabricate w the best of them. I personally hate when a car is done in a pro shop and the owner just pays to have it built there is no hands on connection like u get when you build it yourself. Family has raced cars or built cars as a hobby since the 40's its just what we do. If the banner above makes you think its a pro shop.. we put on the Robbers Cave Fall Foliage Car show in Wilburton, Oklahoma. When the show is over i hang our sponsor banners up in the shop to protect them to use the following year.

Wasnt saying anything bad about the shop, just saying you might only want to show traditional (pre 64/65) type build stuff so to be able to hang around here and let us see what you do.
I like the car. Sorry for the misunderstanding,Guess what I said didnt come out rite after looking back at it.

I have quite a stash of '40 Buick body parts, grille's, bumpers, tail lights, etc. I have a 40 Buick Super 4dr sdn. The Super series was a level above the Century series.

No disrespect intended, but that is not quite correct. The pecking order is Series 40 (Special), Series 50 (Super), Series 60 (Century) and Series 70-80-90 (Roadmaster and Limiteds).

The Century was the 'Factory Hot Rod', introduced in '36, using the smaller and lighter Special body with 4" wheelbase stretch to accommodate the big 320" Roadmaster powertrain. The Super (introduced in 1940) used the bigger body of the Roadmaster but on a shorter wheelbase and the 248" powertrain from the Special. The Roadmaster and upscale models got the big body and big engine.

By the way, the '40 Super is one of my all time favorite Buicks and I had a really, really nice '40 Super Coupe that I stupidly sold back to the prior owner on his request. I am also an admirer of the Super 4 door...the lines of the '40/'41 GM "C" body are superb, imo.

The Century got it's name because it was supposed to do 100 MPH in stock, new delivered from the dealer form.

  18. Looks like you’re off to a fantastic start. I like it, it’s not often i see a good looking 4dr Buick. Good luck with the rest of your build.

We have started on the floor this week and debated back and forth as to if we were going to patch it or do a flat floor and I think we have finally decided to do a flat floor in it and raise it 3 in. From the original. Finally got the doors aligned last night and pick up the tubing monday. Ill post more picks as we get it framed out 20180102_164334.jpg 20180102_164322.jpg

The se projects always take longer then what you think. Great work on saving another car from the crusher and getting it back on the road.

was the raised floor to channel the body over the frame to avoid having a trans tunnel? I love old buicks, this is my 1937 and just picked up a 1938 body to turn into an Australian UTE. Looking for a few 1938 parts if anyone else here is into buicks.

Originally we were going to channel it because i dont like seeing the frame under the running boards but with the wheels im going to run that wont be a possibility. But the original floor and rocker panels were rusted out and needed to be replaced so we went ahead and kept the floor raised because im so short (5'2) i couldnt see over the dash. Even with the raised floor we are still going to put the seat on a 4 in. Riser for me
