I took a 2 liter soda bottle that I could see through, found where it's contour seemed to match the contour of the '40 dash ends... cut a section bigger than I needed, because one can see through it, I placed the template on the dash, I adjusted it for best fit, then I carefully traced the ash tray's opening onto the template, cut it out... take the template and find the spot on a junk '30-'31 headlight where it fits best, trace it, cut it out, sand edges, stainless ash tray doors... I am not keeping mine functional so I won't drill a knob mounting hole, but you could... time has curled my 10 year old templates... .... a clever fellow could have the ash tray doors keep the "ford script, dual light" stamped into them...
