Flat out on the boat still. Looking at a launch date in the third quarter of this year. My shop is still busy with my 17 year old building his first car. 1976 mk2 escort estate. I like my space too much to try and work along side his project! OCD I guess!

I'm a bit partial to 39's and 40's, having owned several so have scouted this thread out numerous times. This '39 Deluxe coupe was my absolute favorite; fooled a few people thanks to the '40 headlamp doors and Argentina repro '40 Standard grille. Sold it in the 1980's. Dumb.

Here's mine just got it on the road in November of 2016. This is just before all the glass went in. Painted it the original Capri Blue IMG_1028.JPG IMG_1030.JPG IMG_1032.JPG IMG_1035.JPG

Yes I made that myself as I was not happy with the one's they repop, I felt they were too small and way too expensive.
I started with a card board pattern then transferred to a piece of 20 ga., once I was happy with the overall fit and lines I transferred it to a piece of 16 ga cold rolled. I then used a bead roller to border and add rigidity to the trunk side only and a 3/4 X 3/4 piece of angle stitched to the bottom center just short of the bumper brackets for added rigidity on the center span. It's mounted to the inside bumper bolts. Left just enough room to get your hand and a cleaning rag in between. IMG_0874.JPG IMG_0877.JPG IMG_0922.JPG

Thanks Loth...even though that's the way they came I just think it looks real odd with that huge gap between the body and bumper. But that's about the only flaw I can find in a 40

Don Dillard made a neat gravel shield for my car that's quite similar. My rear bumper is a flattened '40 Merc piece with a Chevy license guard in the middle, so in plan view the bumper is much less curved than the stock '40 piece. Don made the gravel shield with a similar gap to Sheep Dip's; it hides the bumper brackets and license light wiring nicely:

Neither of these photos are anywhere close to the car's actual color.

Can't say I care for the gravel shield [stock or otherwise] on a 40, but boy do I like your blue 40 Sheep Dip. Tell me about the wheels please.

  14. I don't mind the look of them, but I can't begin the number of times I have stepped between the bumper and tool tray while loading heavy crap into the trunk of my coupe.

  15. Quite a beauty! Are those Caddy wheel covers?

  16. Great look! What's the background on Capri Blue? That's a stock 40 color?
Do you have a modern code?

I bought my coupe back in 1974. I almost sold it in 1979; when I had no time, and no money. I re-started working on it in 1986; when I finally had the time and money. It took me until 1989 to finish it, but it was worth it!

It's a Nason Color don't remember how they call it out but it's a match to the 40 capri blue color chip

Nice Ride. Red would probably been my color of choice had I not already got a 49 Chevy Pick up that's red. I'm also going with the same Almond color interior as you. Currently working on that phase.

Blown 35, if you don't mind me askin, what's your recipe on the stance of this car. That's pretty much right on as to where I'm wanting to go with my 39.

Here are before and after on my 40 and the 39 which followed me home during the 40 build. It got rear fender and trunk repairs and went to another HAMBER a year later. The 40 now has its running boards and is driven daily but interior is still a blanket due to my indecision.
