Anyone seen one of these in a while?? Found in a barn ( no BS) sitting for 20 years. 350, M-20 4 speed, 55 chevy rear with posi and summers bros axles. Had it running and drove it after cleaning tank and replacing fuel pump. Supposidly its a old Navy ambulance. Told my of been a hearse at a funeral home at one point. All original floors. body good except for bottoms of doors. Going to be a cool cruiser....

It looks like a 39 or 40. A 37/38 GMC had a one piece windshield.

Nice find ya got there. Had a 46 1 ton GMC panel. Put in a Buick 455/400 combo with a posi. That thing screamed. Bought it at an auction from a backhoe business that was retiring and ended up selling it to a guy in Newfoundland.

  13. I built a 39 several years ago you can see it in my albums. That looks to be a 40 and is a great find - Congratulations! Best thing about those is the LEG room!

Usually the difference between the GMC and Chevy in the same years were the hood and grille as far as body parts go. Most of the other parts were the same. The drive trains were different too.

Would love to have one like that...

Looks to be 1940, top bar of grill is higher than a'39. '39 dash has round gauges & '40 has rectangular speedo.

it had round gauges in the dash. I just saw a 40 with rectangular one. The grille is a bit pushed up on mine.

  20. That rear bumper is slick, I agree that it's either a 39 or 40

Only the Sedan Delivery and Panel Delivery had the unique depressed center bumpers. They were made that way so the delivery driver could stand right up at the edge of the cargo floor to load and unload.

Hello can anyone direct me to where the vin number for a 1938 GMC truck would be at? I purchased a truck with an incomplete registration due to the vin verification missing and it only shows 4 digits as to being the vin number.
    Is that correct?

Passenger side cowl panel? No numbers on frame until the 50s. The vin on the title would have most likely the engine serial number and or the fisher body number depending on which state it was originaly regestered in if I recall.
