Great!! I need these (I don't have any hinges or springs)
Got the part numbers by chance??
There seems to be a bit of confusion between sedan & pickup
    (or is that just me?)

  4. Bob drake has them listed as 91a-16796/7 , and I used the 91a-16782/3 (40-41)support arms . 38-39 only used 1 arm but I welded extra brace to hood and used one on each side . both were not listed as pu but fit. bob drake 1-800 221 3673 . Call them and ask if these will work but this is what I did .

    Thanks heaps!!
Before you posted this, I went back & checked..... no listing for the '38 Pickup
I would also be happy to run the 2 arms.
    Thanks for the info ;)

38 was the first year for 'clam-shell' type hoods on Ford trucks

Can I join too?! I have a 1938 that I use as my driver and shop truck. It has a 289 Ford w/C4, 9" rear and Mustang II frontend. I found the body at an old farmer's estate and left it as I found it. I drive this thing all over the place-its super dependable and a blast!!I've always loved these pickups, even when everyone else thought they were ugly!

Sweet looking shop truck. Green with gloss black looks awesome.

  17. '38 Ford was the first truck of any US make to have a front-opening hood. BTW, traveling with family and wife didn't feel like stopping, but I spotted a solid, original looking '38 one ton flatbed in front of a shop on US 27 between Bremen and Buchanan GA yesterday.

Interesting... why dose the belt line at the rear of the cab sweep downward?

I'd say it's been turned upside down!!

  20. Its a :) face , lol .

  21. Obviously somebody cut out the section around the beltline on the back of the cab and welded it back in upside down. The beltline on my '38 curves upward.

I'm in. This is my 39. I'm new to this forum and was wondering I'd any one knows what stamped numbees in the firewall drivers side. Start with *14-###*. Any help would be good. Thanks

    lol!!
I wish there was some progress:(
The lack of staff over the last few years has seen the workshop truck project stall  (I've just been working far too many hours with not much "free" time to do other things)
I'll get back to it one day, mean time I also have a couple in COE's to think about building some time :D
I'll also be interested to see your's as it progresses

Just One of the Many mods I've done on this truck -- more pics in my album

  27. I really don't know what the stamped numbers on the firewall mean, but they are not the truck's serial number. That is stamped on top of the left frame rail near the steering box and two other places you can't see with the cab and bed on the frame, and on the bell of the original transmission case. Ford's truck cabs in '38 and '39 were built by Budd (company is still around, makes railroad freight cars now), so it's probably a number than mattered only to Budd.

Thanks. I found the serial number on the frame. Had to clean ig up good to make it out. The guy I bought it from ssic it was a 38. But after reading somd forums on here and getting the serial number. Found it to be a 39. The number on the firewall had me stumped on what it was for.
