Just was curious if anybody had any information on the 37 or 38 willys coups. I have one that’s off the frame and been sitting on the ground for a number of years. The lower part of body is fairly rusty. Trunk hood and body are in fairly good shape other than some dents. Any body know how many were made. Also if I chose to sell it what would a good asking price be. Thanks for any info.

Nice! Someone would gladly give you a large sum of money for that. Even missing the frame and probably most of the floor. The shell, doors and trunk are very hard to find for coupes.

I'd just about give my left arm for that. Can't give the left leg, I need booth feet for gas and clutch pedals. Need right hand for shifting.

Noticed that right away, looks to be 1-2000 miles away too. Bob

  6. Better get it before it freezes to the ground. Worth good money. Might start at 10 grand and see what happens.

It’s off the ground on blocks now. Once it freezes I can get the tractor to it and put it on a trailer.

I never said make an offer. Just wondering the value of a car. I know how much it would cost to restore.

Not sure if it’s 37 or 38. Is there a good way to tell?

  15. the market aint what it used to be. xcept for parts. my buddy tried to sell his beautifull 41 willys truck for over 2 yrs ended up taking 12 grand for a blown willys dragtruck. If you end up going the parts route I'm looking for the glovebox springs and decklid, rear fenders.

Honestly I don’t know yet. It’s on my dads property and he said I could have it. He’s wanted a 46 coupe for as long as I can remember. If I could trade or use the money to buy him one I’d probably do that. I would maybe consider keeping it as well but the amount of body work that would need done makes me think the rebuild would be really expensive.

I am betting the chassis was made into a hay wagon or cart at some point. Looking at were the body is located in relation to the house and surrounding hills in was probably dumped there after the chassis was removed. Check around and under all local wagons, you may find the frame. Also frame/wagon may be discarded elsewhere in hedge row or gully. Don't know how long your father has owned the property, but see if there is an old "dump" sight. May find more/missing parts in it.
    Good Luck. Nice save. :)

  20. A bit better way to say it is a 37 had hinges on each side of the hood LIKE MOST OF TODAY'S cars...the '38, and all others up to '42 had a piano type hinge in the center of the cowl. g-willys

  21. If you can't see the hinges on the hood to identify the year, there is one other way to tell...the '37's had No drip rail over the door opening...'38 on up did have a drip rail over the door opening. In the 4th photo I enlarged it, and it does appear that there is a drip rail, but it is not real clear. The hood vent also covere the area where the piano hinge would show...and that would cinch that it is a '38. g-willys 90B82EFD-A044-4473-9BB2-9FD4C9CBE34D.jpeg

  22. You are right...the 37-38 model year was the most production for Willys cars of the 30's....I have researched this data for many years, and the Model 38 (not the '37), was the one that had around 26,000 units. The model '37 actually had many more...somewhere around 63,000. I have a factory parts number book, that includes all the models (except the early style 33-36), and the range of their serial numbers...I have posted it somewhere on the HAMB many years ago, but I could post it again if you like.
It goes from 1937 up to the few that were produced in 1942, as they were in Jeep production for WWll, by then.

If the plan is to trade it for something else, take the time to find as many parts as you can (as suggested above). Try to make the body as presentable as possible, take plenty of pics and make sure what you want to do (sell, trade, etc). Then post an add on different sites (here first) and be prepared to field many questions about your field find! Good Luck and keep us posted, Carp.

  27. The data I found over the years indicated that '38 was about 26,689 units (done by subtracting the total built in a given year from the begining number for the next year. Both the model 48, and the model 39 were low totals in the model year 1939...I have been told that the sharknose design, and the switch over from cable to hydraulic brakes was part of the reason. The numbers that I came up with for the model 48 in 1939 was 2623. The total number of '39's was around 15,212....the model 39 was the sharknose, and the model 48 was just about the same as the 'model 38 .... g-willys

Is the "Sharknose" the one with the odd headlights? Are the fenders different with those headlights? Bob

  29. TOTALLY DIFFERENT... Here are all the headlight parts for a '39, and a complete front clip for a '39..g-willys IMG_20180207_110027507 (2).jpg download (1).jpg

I would say it's a 38 as there's no hinge mount in glove box area as on 37
