I purchased 2 headlight buckets at a swap recently but should have paid more attention. Below the FORD logo, one says "TWO LAMP HEADLIGHT" and the other says "SEALED BEAM". The "SEALED BEAM" bucket has the interior support for a 7" sealed beam bulb and a much shorter mounting bolt. Does anybody know which is the real '36 and/or where the other one came from?

I am trying to "upload a file" but I am being told "there is a problem uploading your file" but it doesn't say what the problem is. It is a .jpeg file of only 26K and 240 x 320 pixels. I will continue trying.

Mine all say Ford Two Lite. Your buckets don't look deep enough for stock '36 but can't really tell by pic's to be sure...............................

I was assuming that since Ford moved from buckets to in-fender headlights in 1937, the "Sealed Beam" was the '36 and the "two lamp" was the '35" When was the "sealed beam" introduced? Could it be from a later model Ford pickup? As you can see, the bucket shape is identical except for the top lip. Also, both lens retainer rings fit the "two lamp" model but not the other.

    Pic stolen from the web..................
Believe '39 was first year for US sealed beams.
I also have a set of '35 '36 buckets with sealed beams but always considered them a conversion.

1940s were the first Fords with sealed beams.

Obviously, this drawing is a "TWO LAMP" set up. What is stamped on the top of your sealed beam "conversions"?
If it says "SEALED BEAM" then it is like mine and is probably from a '39 pickup. The problem is I have one of each.

Didn't know '39 Ford p/u was the same depth as '36?

You are correct, mine say twolite also (my mistake.) It appears that the other one is from a '41 to '47 COE Ford Truck. as it also has the different lip and longer mounting bolt. Now all I have to do is find someone who wants to sell a single '36 bucket.

send me your sealbeam bucket with return postage ill send you back a 36 pass bucket ok pm me

  15. '35 and '36 car uses the same bucket, but the '35 has a much longer mounting stud than '36. '38-'39 trucks use the same complete headlight assemblies as '35 car. I have '36 lenses and rings on my '38 pickup. Ford went to sealed beams in 1940. The '40-'41 big trucks and cabovers up through '47 have a headlight bucket that looks almost identical to the '35 car/'38-'39 truck buckets, but they were made to mount sealed beams. These big truck sealed beam buckets will bolt right on to a '35 car or '38-'39 truck. You could mount them on a '36 car if you shorten and re-thread the stud and if you have the mounting hardware that is unique to '36 car.

  16. The lights on Choppedtudor's car are the '40-'41 big truck /'40-'47 cabover headlights.

  17. the 1940, and 1941 headlight buckets are similar, but not the same. the area where the headlight rim mounts is where the difference is. you can not use 1940 headlight rims on a 1941 bucket and vice versa. the headlight rims are different also.
