Hello everyone, I can get a pretty good deal on a bare 1936 Ford frame to put under my 1931 Model A coupe. The frame is in excellent shape with all of the crossmembers present. I have searched around a bit trying to find pictures of Model A coupes using this type of frame but the only one I can find is Jimmy White's Hemi coupe. I have a couple of questions for you folks: 1. What do you think of this combination? 2. What types of modifications would be necessary to sit the body on this frame? 3. Anyone have any pictures of a Model A sitting on a '36-'37 frame? 4. Would I be better off just buying a set of '32 rails and building my own? I consider myself a pretty decent fabricator but would like to get some feedback on this before I pick this frame up. Thanks. Stan
Anything can be done. Jimmy White's Hemi powered Model A is on a 35-40 frame...although he said it was too much work and would not recommend it. You could use the 35 X-member and rear crossmember with a pair of ASC 32 rails and build a pretty nice chassis. [/QUOTE]
Talking about 36 Ford frames, I am trying to put a OEM inner frame between a pair of newly manufactured (Canada) outer frame rails. The rear frame kick up locates the inner and outer, and, as my new outers have some holes per drilled, the back half is gold. Problem is my front half is an inch off with the inner slightly over an inch too long. The Canadian outer rails match up with Wescott's diagram. But, the inner actually came out from under a real car. It can't be a Mercury as they did not exist in 36. I can't see how my inner frame could have stretched. Is Wescott and the Canadians wrong?
