Hi, This is a 1936 ford panel truck that my dad bought in 1965. He was 15 years old and bought it for $10.00 from a scrap yard. It didn't have a steering box so it was roped up on the tailgate of a 59 chevy pickup to get home. After getting a healty coat of primer it was left untouched at my grandparents until this past year. It has seemed to have taken some abuse over the years that my dad doesn't remember. We got it home and found out the body still isn't that bad, but the worst part is the rear doors. We bought all the running gear out of a 40 ford and used it in the panel.
FRONT SUSPENSION: 4 inch dropped tube axle with reversed Eye spring and 36 wishbones, and the front crossmember is raised 1 inch.
TRANSMISSION: The transmission is a 40 ford side shift with 40 column and steering box.
REAR SUSPENSION:The rearend is also 40 ford.
BRAKES: 40 ford hydraulic brakes all the way around with 40 pedals. WHEELS/TIRES:15" early ford with coker classic wide whitewalls.
MOTOR: 66 283 that is stock with the exception of the offenhauser dual port manifold and holley economaster carb, and corvette valve covers. Hurst front motor mount. Homemade alternator bracket. The exhaust manifolds are 265 chevy with a passenger used on the driverside with smitty mufflers.

There are a couple little things that are left to be done. Plans call for a hood, paint the glove box door, screw some of the wood down in the back, and make a top for it. We are going to drive the piss out of it for now.

    Thanks 51farmtruck
you have inspired me with my 37 ford truck, I especially like the 4" dropped axle.
Is the rear dropped or 40 ford stock?
    What size rubber?

Hi, The rear is a stock 40 ford spring and rearend. The tires are coker classic 5.60-15 fronts and L78-15 rears. Thanks Sam

Great story, and cool truck!! Nice work. I especially like the way you dropped the front crossmember. Was thinking of a similar modification for my '33 truck. Any issues with making that mod, or is it as simple as it looks?

Great that you are finally getting the truck on the road. I too would like to know why it took so long to get working on it. I should talk, I've got a '32 5w that has been sitting for 37 years.:)

HI: The reason it took so long to get the panel running , after I left home the minute I got my drivers license , the truck the stayed, now you would have to know my old man,but it was HIS now! he passed away 3 years ago so I finally got the truck back, It was the first car I ever bought so I thought I should get it running, We drove it down the avenue that I dreamed about driving it down when I was a kid a couple a weeks ago, was pretty cool ,the 45 year wait was worth it! THANKS Chris
