Just purchased a 36 coupe and working out a few bugs. The front sheet metal ( hood, hood sides, grill, headlight piece, and fenders) are not aligned very well. Is there a good way to attach this. I do not need it perfect but I know it could be much better. Sent from my iPad using H.A.M.B.
The frame must be straight and square and any other description there might be. Then, trial and error. Lots of patience.
I would start with aligning the hood to the cowl, and work from there. You may find you will have to make compromises and re-adjust everything. You may have to ream some holes oversize to get the adjustability needed, but if the frame is not straight, you will be fighting a major battle.
There are procedures in this thread that I've found super helpful... https://fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8199
Way back I was helping a friend with a 36 convertible and nothing wanted to line up. We learned the car had been dropped off of a high trailer and the frame was bent down about 2” in the middle. We got it straightened and every thing lined up correctly.
I never worked on one, but I was told by more than one guy... If Henry put a 3/8 hole in the fender only use a 5/16 bolt in it. The holes are one size bigger than the required bolt. That is the adjustment area.
