I got the roof, and the drivers door finished up.

This is the 7th pickup door I've done so for. Defiantly getting the hang of it :)

I make the door skin, and the bottom patch here at the shop. I find I can make the patches fit better. Plus I can make the profiles on the beads closer to the original. Just allows me to make a more accurate product.

  14. Any chance you will be making and selling these parts to those of us that need them? If so, any prices?

I could defiantly make some skins for you guys. The skin would have the bottom bead, bottom and side's flipped, and would go all the way up to the bottom of the middle beads. You would have to trim the hinge area.

I'd make the skins for 450$ each. or 800$ if you buy a pair.

I find that the 20 gauge I get around here matches closest to the original gauge of sheet metal used. Ive used 18 gauge but where its thicker its harder to get the seam to finishes smooth with the existing panel. I can make it with either 20 or 18 gauge your preference.

I can make the skins in a couple days time.

I find that I have to make the bottoms fit each door. The ones they sell work well, and probably cheaper than I can make them. :)

Sounds good,I will contact you when i need them. Thanks,Happy Easter.

  21. Are you tig or mig welding the skins on? Looks like a nice seam (butt welded I assume...) If you're tig welding, what wire? I'm using the .023 Easy Grind, but the weld still seems a little hard. I did some tigging, but the old metal seems like it has some junk in it. I grind it clean before welding, but it still pops. Nice work. I happen to be doing a '34 truck myself(pic in my profile). Thanks for the pics, keep us updated.

I tig weld everything here at the shop. I actually don't even own a mig :) I use .023 wire to tig the skins with, and yep it's a butt welded seam. I have everything sandblasted inside and out before I do any welding. I have the same problem if I don't. Blasting is the only thing I've found that cleans the metal good enough for me to tig.

Great work on the skins and the price is right as well.
Have you ever used 19ga AKDQ (Aluminum Killed Draw Quality) for skins? I find it is as close as I can get to the old metal and it is so nice to work with but most supply house do not carrie it or even know about it. We get ours through American metals in West Sacramento but I need to give them the Modesto supplier each time I order and it comes in 4x10 only. When I order in quanity I think I get it for around 100 a sheet.

Got the other door finished. Now its on to getting the doors and roof on the cab, get it all square, and chop the top.

Ive got the doors back on the cab and the roof on. Now its just tweaking everything so it all lines up. Then I can put bracing in and start on the chop.

Ive been working on a bunch of things on this pickup. I got the chop layed out and cut the top part of the back off.
The pickup will be channeled so I removed the original floor which will give me good access to do the bottom patch panels.
Then with it all open I decided to fix the panel below the window. Its all smooth and the bottom is flipped where the new height of the floor will be That way the 2 x 4 rails can exit the back nice and clean. The rest of the bottom of the cab will remain stock.
