Question for all the 33/34 guys. Will a later stick trans fit with the stock 33/34 saddle mount or is it almost always going to have to be removed? Thanks

Any 32-48 trans will bolt in using the 34 rear mount. You would need the right clutch lever to suit your pedals.

Thanks man. The original plan is to run a 39 trans but I was pondering a T5 and wonder if it would fit with the saddle mount. By later trans I meant much later. Sorry for the confusion. Hopefully that clarifies.

  4. With a T5 you will need to cut/modify the center saddle and probably some of the X member

Not necessarily. There is a detailed thread on "The Ford Barn" about T5's and torque tubes. I am more of an 8BA/Shoebox guy and no expert on this, but I suggest you check that thread out. I think it was done by a guy named "Heard" over there.

I found a pretty detailed article on the ford barn but it was for a 35 and later and it did require modification to the cross member. I’ll have to keep searching the Ford barn.

model A guys are using the 4spd overdrive from ranger pickups without butchering things up too bad. that tranny is shorter, and the mods to make it closed drive have been done.

well, i dont know why that all mushed together, google t170 hamb and a lot show up. i would have gone this way with my 34, but i had a columbia to use instead. i followed a friend about 90 miles once, me in a honda civic, him in a model A, mild motor, just a head i think, cast iron brakes and the t170 and i could hardly keep up with him

The F150 is not a Ranger and the T170 is not the four speed. The 4 speed has a granny low and no overdrive. I have the T170 in my avatar. Really great transmission for an old Ford

I hadn’t really ever looked at the T170 trans as an option but that is a neat set up. They do look at little harder to come by than a T5 though.
