Just checking the waters here, Does anybody know the Rear end width on a 1933 Plymouth PD Coupe? I was looking for a 440 engine for my coupe and found a so so deal on a 71 Plymouth Satellite Sebring plus. This has a rebuilt early 440 and 727 trans. Thinking if I could use the Rear end and a few more parts off the car it might be worth it. Some research found that the Rear is 57.8" flange to flange and 62" Overall width. For some reason I am thinking a 440 and a 4 speed is just what this fenderless coupe would love..... CJO13
I have several early 440, 400, 361 & ect. I have a few 727 trannies. When i built mine over 12 to 14 years ago, i used 8" Maverive with built '78 360 from a Dodge Magnum, Lady owned, with low miles. Just seen a Hi-Boy '33 Friday night at Milford Cruise In. It looked tough ! I have all kind of speed parts for 440's. Reduction Starter, Cromed Alternator & so on. I was going to build a '34 Dodge Pk. Up. Cruise On, Old Dude.
I think the "A body" 8 3/4" rear end would be the narrowest, and you would need a positive off set rim..... or the 58 to 60 ford 9" rear end (u bolts shockers/plates) will drop straight onto your existing rear leaf springs, still requiring a more positive off set rim.....to fit bigger rims and tires under the fenders.
Satellite rear should fit fine I have an 8 3/4 coronet/satellite rear in my 29 Dodge and it is same width as the 8" ford I have in my 33 plymouth.Hope this helps.
Just be aware that an A body rear has the small 4" bolt circle for the axles not the 4 1/2 that all the other mopars have
