The woodgrain dash looks really good, at least in a picture. I like it.

The SAR quarter panels are not finished, the corners need small filler pieces and doublers where they mount.

Worked on the quarters again. Added the small tab with a square hole for a carriage bolt that also goes through the sill plate. Drilled the hinge bed holes and tweaked the hinge beds to get the hinges to sit flat.

  7. Your work is awesome, and shows that if you break it down in to tasks, the whole project comes together. When your posts come up, I open them right away.
    Thanks!

Do you find that all of your sheet stock and repo parts are far softer than Ford originals? I do.

Thanks. It seems kind of daunting sometimes, then I get a couple projects moved forward and I get reinvigorated

Defiantly, the original metal doesn’t move like modern metal.

Finished up the quarter panel modifications on the drivers side. Then I test fit the panel above the decklid

Did some pressing on the hinges to make them flat...they have had a rough life

Got the hinges flattened, pins removed and cleaned. The first hinge pin came out no problem, the next two I had to drill out. The last one was the hardest. They had already had the pins replaced at some point so I will need a couple oversized pins. This should be good for mock-up

  13. Those SAR quarters also work for 5 windows with a little work. 34floors1_09small.jpg

Test fit the quarter panel support and the “hoop” with original b-pillar brackets. The original “hoop” wasn’t savable from its heavy modification and liberal lead application

Pressed the dimples in the wheel wells

Was easier to get the nuts on the back by rotating the body

Indexed and drilled the holes for mounting the tack strip around the rear of the cockpit. Eventually I’ll rivet this all together, but I used small machine screws to attach the “hoop”. I’m really happy with how this is fitting

    Amazing work you do!

Steel gets harder as it ages, new metal of the exact same alloy will be softer than 100 year old stuff. The new material won't have the nickel content of the original either.

Made a set of the brackets to mount the top irons and temporarily installed them with bolts. These will get rivets for final assembly

Test folded a set of top irons, checked that they folded correctly

After a failed attempt last year to steam bend top bows...we have successfully done it.

There is a good video on YOUTUBE that has all the technical information. Basically I built a giant machine that bends the steamed oak blank.

Worked on a set of door jam tins. I have another roadster project for sale and it needed the tins. Don’t know if I’ll use these or the originals on this car

Just a quick post, if you are building a roadster from a pile of parts or converting a phaeton. These will be available soon

Made a package tray using a pattern a friend sent. It was just a little too wide to fit in my bench top planer, so I used a handheld power planer to get it down to 3/4 inch. Sanded and first coat of marine varnish.

  30. Great build thread. What is the story on what looks like a homemade rotisserie from engine stands? I like it small and compact.
