History 1933 - 1936 Willys, picture thread

  1. The Merkel car lives less than 8 minutes from my house. Owners a friend. You do know that it is a fiberglass body on a chassis nothing stock Willys about it. Probably why it has that stance. Still a cool vintage car

LB the SBC engine from Jack's 39 B/GS Willys went into this car, which was raced only one year then the glass 33 w/BBC power followed. The SBC though was not done racing it wound up in Eddie Sanzo's glass 33 and ran BB/G. The yellow 33 steel coupe was bought by a Bob Grimm who was a friend of Jacks and wound up somewhere out in California as a S/G car. I spoke with Jack when he was alive and he lost touch with Bob but said that Bobs son was involved in the car.

Asked my friend and as usual he came through.

Pat, John went to a trade school for his mechanical education.
He worked for AL Zerberini 'Bee Line' Willys, as a mechanic,
and helped AL, as a pit crew member, then built his '33' Willys
coupe, that was blown 'Olds' powered.
Hoped this helps ya.Fuzzy came through with 'info'.

Definitely not Indy Pat. Too many trees close to the track and the tower is wrong--construction and location.

    .

The Boss Hydro car is Rocky Pirrones' replica of his father's Joe original 33 Willys.. 67Nats-bosshydro.jpg

The car I own(see avatar) was owned by Joe Pirrone and was to be the Boss Hydro but was sold to Chuck Ivan and became the "Mystery 8" car

I spoke with me friend who worked at Jacks and also was on his crew, he did raise the rear fenders the car would have had running boards and splash aprons that would have hung down about 3" below the door. So without that stuff the bottom of the fender was moved up to match the bottom of the door. The body was also moved back on the chassis a tad.

Pretty sure this is also the Prock & Howell car when it came back to the mainland. Probably close to the time that Dan Lau owned it. 1032813scr_wm_52025870c960fb3.jpg

Very cool LB I've had a few 35/36 Willys they are not as popular maybe because they didn't make a glass nose only a 33/34 nose. But I have a soft spot in my heart for them. By the way that one has the wrong bumper looks like for flat towing.
