The "Islanders" 33 Willys was Eddie Sanzo's twin of Jack Merkels AA/G car. They were both built at the same time by Frank Cali (pretty sure). At some time Ed partnered with Paul Sullivan, all these guys where friends. Eddie ran the car as a BB/G with a SBC. It was then sold and became the "Islanders" car. Then was sold and is the bracket car seen here. Owned by the same family since the Islander owners sold it many years ago.

I recently bought a 'glass '33 Willys body and chassis at a swap meet. Per the seller, the body and frame are a product of Dennis Taylor from Arkansas. There are questions I would love to ask about the body and chassis and wonder if anyone knows of the builder, if he's still active and any idea of how he might be reached?

    Thanks

    Lynn

The Sorokin on the hood was Mike who later went on to drive the famed Surfers top fuel car. George Bacilek also went top fuel racing as he was one third of the Scrima Liner team along with Ronnie Scrima and Don Alderson of Milodon fame.

I believe those are the fenders I have had in storage for over 40 years.

I thought that was his car, never seen it from that angle. Haven't seen him in a while, looked it up and was last on June 3, 2019

  14. Pat, he should get an alert and maybe see this post. I haven't talked to him in a while either. I should probably give him a call in the next few days

I believe the pics of the blue coupe came from a web site that the original owners had up for a while. Contreras Bros?

Why is the lettering marked out on the door? Like someone did it in MS Paint.

  20. You'd have to ask @Dean Walker it's his and his dad's project. I believe his dad had something to do with the car when racing back in the day. Looks to me like maybe mid 1970's in the first pic I copied above

Yes that pic. showed up on Lebanon Valley Dragway Facebook page. That pic. shows car with wide Model A fenders on rear to help cover excess slick hanging out of earlier fenders. The tech guys made that ugly look/change happen. It was like that in 1969 and up when rear wheels were the 2 piece bolt together Americans, probably 16x10 or 16x11. I think it looked better before those bigger wheels and slicks.

  28. All the cars in this thread are cool as hell.
However and by far jack merkel’s car has the best stance and proportions.
Not sure exactly why it works better for my brain but it does.
Also not sure what he did to the body besides lower it and raise the rear fendres

31Vicky I don't think he did much really except lower the body over the chassis more than was common that plus the top chop gave it that look. I will ask my friend who knew more than I do about Jacks car. I believe that's Jegs Camaro in the other lane and it could be Indy. Eddie Sanzo's car was built by the same guy after Jacks car, same glass body but looks different.
