Hot Rods 1932 Roadster Build

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by CTaulbert, Mar 7, 2011.

  1. I need to pick up a roll of that ivory waxed string. Very nice touch! Great craftsmanship all around!!

I'll need to check out that Walker Morrison roadster in TRJ....

  2. I just spent the last hour or so reading the whole thread. Fantastic man! Those videos are cool!

Did you make that tranny cross member? It's really nicely done.

Also, are those '40 Merc. hubcaps? It's kinda hard to see in the pictures.

I hope you make it to Detroit! I can't wait to see it!!! Great work!

I made it from 4 pieces of 3/16" flat stock that I cut to shape, then welded together. The ends are some machined bungs to accept P&J bushings. As for the caps, they're original '46 Merc pieces.

    Very nice thanks

  5. I'm sure the ivory wax will end up looking black after a year or so of driving. :)

A few more photos of the progress....

We went to GNRS this weekend, so I had a short break on the car. Right before we left, the plating came back from Jon Wright's CCP. Everything is nickeled rather than chromed - it turned out extremely nice:

We stopped by the painter's tonight too and checked out the body. He just has a couple panels to rub out, but what you see has been rubbed with some compound:

We brought the firewall back, and I had to set it on the frame to see how it looked:

More to come later in the week....

The firewall got the patent tag and installed on the frame last night. I got the body back tonight, and we set it down on the frame (still need to drop the bolts down in it). The paintwork is incredible on it - definitely the nicest black paint, let alone paint, I've had on a car. More pieces come back this week, and I'll get the wheels off to the painter over the weekend.

Beautiful. It's a great feeling dropping the body and knowing it's probably for the last time!

Here's some progress over the last week or so.....

The dash came back, so I got that installed with the dash tunnel. 99% of the wiring on the car is complete (just need to install the column tube and drop), and started the engine last night to confirm everything worked. The fuse panel, relays, and battery are all in the right front corner of the trunk for ease of access if needed.

I hung the doors tonight and started the tedious task of gapping everything. The grill insert came back tonight, so I mounted it in the shell and hung it on the radiator. There's some other shots of the car too:

    Thanks for the comments guys.

I rejetted and changed power valves in the carbs tonight to get closer to a baseline for the initial drive. I'll probably have the wheels back sometime this weekend, and have the hood mid-next week. I also spent tonight getting the doors gapped nice, which took a lot of adjustment - but they look good like they did in mockup now.

Everything is DuPont's Chromapremier line - just single stage black
