Was wondering if anyone has any pics of roadsters in these colors so I can get an idea of what it will look like on my 29 A roadster. Gotta make a decision ASAP as the car is at the sprayers and I'm still undecided. Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
Sorry but I'm sticking to period correct ford colors for a late 40's style build, thanks anyway Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
Here's a post from Fordbarn showing Bright Coach Maroon, not on a roadster but you get the idea. Cool color but it looks more like a darker maroon than medium. http://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=52222&highlight=bright+coach+maroon Another of my favorite vintage colors is 47/48 Ford Monsoon Maroon.
"Let me know when you find a source for 70 year old paint." Easy: Colors from current back to 1924 by manufacturer and model: http://www.autocolorlibrary.com/
TCP has the paint code and will mix the color Bright Coach Maroon is chip #1762 Mfg code QDE727 double check the numbers with TCP
Here's another one that I've dealt with: Color-Ite Refinishing in Bethany Ct. www.color-ite.com They carry Sherwin Williams.
Can't be any help as far as offering any visual aides but I have seen a 32 roadster that when I ask about the color I was told was med. maroon and was told it is a factory color,,looked great. HRP
Check the cars listed under "Recent Repairs" on my website. There's a few shots of a 32 Vicky with the original maroon paint. www.ancientauto.com
Had a customer last year wanted his OT Karman Ghia painted Viper Red Told him that the color in PPG was over 600 bucks a gallon, thought he sh*t his pants when I told him that ! Anyway, he said he'd get the paint. I had about 3/4 of a quart in PPG Concept left over, so I jambed it, he brings me that TCP crap in BC. I look @ it and the color ain't even close, tell him that and he say's shoot it anyway. I back tape the jambs, shoot the TCP crap and cover it with 3 coats of SPI clear. He comes and looks @ it 2 days after it's shot and kinda likes it until I opened the doors, looked like day and night, he bit the bullet and had me re-shoot it in PPG. Very costly lesson for him. He had well over 3500 dollars in materials and extra labor in it, than I had originally quoted.
That's why I asked about period correct colors, not period correct paint. ;-) Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
Here's a pic I pulled from the inter web , planning on painting my roadster dark maroon, I think the lighter shades look too red in sunlight Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
That was easy http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/colorcodedisplay.cgi?manuf=Ford The formula is there too. Take the number to the paint dealer and off you go. Couldn't be any easier.
I dont know for sure what the color was but it reminded me of the color on my GMC. It was a garnett red from 89 or 90 s10.This car was at the HAMB drags and I loved it and the color......I heard it was for sale but I couldnt find the guy or I would have tried to trade with him !!
also thinking of maroon for next 40 std coupe--not crazy about 40 maroons--maybe 34 coach maroon this time.
Hey, Before you deside on a colour choice I'd like to suggest, you see that colour, in daylight, on an actual vehicle. Colour chips, or reproduced photos of colours, arn't real good at showing a true example of a given colour choice Too, you may wanna find a local source for your colour choice, over say, buying from overseas, as some coloures may not be legal for importation to your country
Agree Pimpin Paint, color chips aren't the greatest choice, and as far as pics go, well we all know how they can vary from screen to screen, etc, I've found a pic of what I like thanks to this topic and will take it in on my ipad to the sprayer for him to make a sample of for me Thanks to the poster of this pic, you've decided my color choice for me.
