    I'm with you guys. I remember the year that I we went to the Shades of the Past show. The whole front row of repopped Deuces in the Deuce show area had the same Ved spreader bar with the built in turn signals. I pointed it out to my buddy and we just chuckled.

    Mine is a genuine Henry model along with the tag bracket. Chromed some time in the 50s.

    If you are running a fairly original frame, you need the strength of originals with forged ends and heavy tubing. I think all the new ones have the structural value of a K-Mart shower curtain rod, fine with boxed frame and complex crossmember. Until someone backs into your car...well, no problem, deuce grills are common and cheap...

    Yep, you all are right, I too have lost the attraction to my v'd spreader bar, kind of wish it wasn't so obtrusive looking.
    I was fine with it, then I joined the HAMB.

  9. Question: Are original spreader bars the exact same width as the repros? I heard or read somewhere that there was a difference. Don't recall where I got that rumor though.

    After-market ones are slightly longer to suit the after-market frames which don't have the stiffening plates on the inside of the frame rails like an original frame. I had to remove one of the plates from my frame to fit the repro bar on my OG chassis.

    I was 33 years old the first time I replied to this thread. Makes me think maybe I should leave some bits of wisdom for future Scott. ;)

    I have three different front bars, one is original, all are slightly different lengths.

    I have three different rear bars, two originals, all are slightly different lengths o_O

    Old thread, dragged up, but, for what it’s worth,
    I built my own out of heavy wall tube or steam pipe with 3/8” end brackets, chromed them.
    They double as bumpers, hence the heavy tube.
    Rear one is awfully close to the fuel tank !
