Installing soon a UP tack strip on a deuce roof insert install. Should we paint it a satin black to blend in with the black insert material. Car is yellow so I don't imagine it should be body color.
Also I see most folks usually leave the lower grill shell behind the grill body color. Anyone black that area out ?

No and no. I'd prefer them both body color.

Black out the bottom of the shell (they look goofy body color) but, paint the tack strip body color.

Tack strip should be satin black , I presume your insert is black , this will make the tack strip blend in .
The grill shell inner could be either but I prefer body color, they are not that obvious so body color is easier.

I have the tack strip painted satin black to match the insert material on my coupe.

My tack strip is body color, but black is all right in my opinion.
In fact some of my paint came off so mine will someday be satin black.

On my truck the insert is made to the grille shell hence the lower panel got painted the accent color.

    Hello,
Have you received the tack strip yet ? did they ship a $400 tack strip sandwiched between to cheap pieces of
cardboard ? Mine came bent because of that. But that wasn't the worse of it. The inside of the bends were kinked from compression during the bending. Those could be dollied down, but the biggest surprise was the "hat" shaped channel section where the rubber seal fits into was too deep, and bottomed out in the body gutter before the flanges set down tight against the body and the top material. I wasn't expecting to have to reshape the whole thing after paying $ 400. for it. I thought U.P. quality was better than that. I ended up buying the inexpensive extruded aluminum straight lengths from a model "A" parts supplier. They have the correct shaped cross section, to fit down in the "gutter" properly, then I built two forming tools ( because the front and back corners have two different radius).
I know enough about metal forming to know that the U.P. tack strip is made on roll form tooling. Why didn't they get the cross section shape right ?
