Love the way the rear tires are stuffed in the fenders, looks perfect. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Great stuff, Cory... I always enjoy following along on your builds - great selection of parts, always nice work and tastefully done. Perfect! Malcolm
Cory, nice car !!! Do those front brakes bolt up to 32 spindles or was there some work that had to be done? Karl
Yes - the brakes do bolt up to '32-34 spindles, and do not require any spacer ring to center the backing plate. You still need the spindle spacer to properly locate the inner wheel bearing due to the longer snout. Everything was from Early V8 Garage, and of superb quality. Yeah....well....I forgot to mention that we were in the middle of some house remodeling and that went full steam. Fortunately, it's wrapping up this weekend so I'll get back to the car (and updates) next week. The extremes of both worlds.....
ok......ok..... I'm back to working on the car. Dan finished up the exhaust, which turned out to be quite a lot of work making a set of headers (specifically the driver's side). They should be on the car tomorrow. Meanwhile, I've started on the wiring. I made a small panel that mounts using a couple of the firewall mat fasteners. On it are a few relays for the Columbia vacuum controller and ignition, along with a small fuse block to protect some circuits. It mounts up pretty high, so it should be difficult to see when the car is down on the ground. I also got the upper radiator hoses finished up, and clamped everything with some NOS Firestone thumbscrew clamps. I also modified a Stromberg fuel line for a Offenhauser dual intake (has the same carb spacing) to work on this Navarro dual intake. I did have to make a small rubber section to meet the fuel pump, which is also clamped with some NOS Wittek thumbscrew clamps. I installed the steering box tonight, which is a '37 Nash box that Neal Jennings built. Dan put one of Neal's '37 Hudson boxes in his tudor, and really liked it. I even picked up one for my future 5w project too. Anyway, it's a perfect piece and directly fits in place of the '32 box. As far a electrical stuff, I just need to route the harnesses to the lights, coil, generator, etc....so it's not too far off. I'm hoping to get the front sheet metal back on the car by the end of the weekend.
paging @3wLarry........ We got some more progress done on the car over the weekend. Dan finished up the stainless tube headers that he built for the car. Getting the tubes to clear everything on the driver's side of the engine bay is no small feat. I also continued on the wiring, routing the headlight wires and soldering on the terminals for the connectors. We were in a dilemma with the running boards - the passenger side was original and in decent shape, but the driver's side was recovered at some point, and it was separating. Dan's tudor was in need of a passenger board to make a good pair on the car, so we decided to get some new Drake boards for the 3w. According to Dave Rehor, they're the most accurate boards out there. We hung those today, along with the front fenders. The fuel tank had varnished gas in it, along with a look of sludgy looking stuff. We drained the tank, and soaked it for a couple days with vinegar. It got rid of most of the sludge, but we did a couple day soak with E85, which got the rest of it out. The tank still had some rust scale inside so after researching on the Fordbarn about electrolysis cleaning, I took a shot at it. It turned out great, and looked brand new inside. We swished around a little kerosine to protect the steel and drained out the left over. I sat the tank in place and hooked up the fuel line and hydrostatic line, but I still need to put the bolts in.
Man I love how clean your work around this old car is. Everything is coming together really nicely. I admittedly did not like the divco's out back but I am learning to deal with them as time goes one (not that anyone cares about my opinion nor is worth anything haha) The rest of the car is a dream come true for me. Early Ford with old black paint, Detailed Flathead, Lowered just right? Yes please!
We're shooting for Columbus with it, and that should leave plenty of time to shake out any issues to make sure it's road worthy.
