Just an FYI,A friend with a sort of stock '32 Ford roadster just had the steering replaced with a Series 2,3 Land Rover (1960-84) steering box and is quite pleased with it.Appears to be nearly a bolt in except for extending the shaft and tube. Here is a pic of what the LHD unit looks like.A link to the pitman arm also. No need to look for the '37 Hudson box anymore. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/370597595119 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/264477515167?hash=item3d94169d9f:g:W1wAAOSwHoFXuyJ8 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/114722300759?hash=item1ab5fb6357:g:5RYAAOSwc2NgSfnu
Another candidate is a 47-59 Chevy pick up box. Recirculating ball design like Vegas. Think a big strong Vega designed for side steering. Same internal design used in all GM cars like 55-57 Chevys.
^^^^^ I'd say more Land Rover part's to be found in and near France than early domestic parts would be.
I don't know although I would think there is a wedge. The owner of the car is not a builder,he had it done. The shaft is solid, not hollow like a Ford for the horn wire.
I had the pleasure of taking a ride in Michael's roadster yesterday, a fantastic car, the Landcover box was installed by Jim Turnbull at Royal Kustoms along with the S.co.T blown Flathead and 5 speed. I have limited knowledge of these units except in a Landcover but my understanding is that the landcover steering box is a RHD unit but flipped when transferred to the other side. According to Michael it handles really well, very smooth and responsive. Jim installs them on a good few early Fords. Next time I see the car I will have a look at the way it is mounted. Some other UK hot rodders may chip in with more detailed info. Gordon.
