Projects 1930 sport build

  1. My favourite inventive top material story was here on the hamb, don't recall the thread, but it was for a period deuce highboy. He needed period looking aged canvas. He went to the Army Surplus and purchased old canvas tents. The finished product looked perfect.

I went out for lunch today in bountiful stopped at Wendy’s. I was in for a treat. There I seen about 10 A’s parked. I checked out the cars and was drooling, then I ran inside and asked the old boys if they were the Salty A’s Club!? Yup it was them! That’s was a good lunch break! Went a little longer then expected but it’s for the cause!
if your a Salty A. Let me know!

One of the old boys talked about using that. That’s not a bad idea I love and appreciate the input!

Curious. How many modified/welded bones have you seen that have failed? Everyone is still doing it and it's even in the Vern books. Am I missing something?

I got the pulley we all talked about. The minor diameter on the original tapped pulley is .630 looks like a fine corse thread, I don’t have my gages here to say what exact thread. The bore on the new pulley is .680 so that means that I have about .05 slop in the new pulley.
Im thinking now I could put a kincert in the new pulley..
any thoughts? I thought I would have material to drill and tap. Seeing that people have done this before. Maybe I got the wrong one? here’s a picture of the 2 and of the order

I have been getting a lot of work done on this thing and enjoying it!
I just need to figure out why my generator is not charging my battery.
I also need to bend my steering arms still. for the pulley I bored the new pulley. I made a piece to fit the bore with the same features as the old. It’s a .670 bore with an 11/16-20 tap that’s about .750 deep. Then I drilled and tapped thru the pulley for a couple set screws holding it to the new piece.

as for the generator here’s a photo
    upload_2022-5-21_14-52-51.jpeg
the field is the stud up top, the armature is the rear wire and the lower stud I’m not to sure what that’s for. The field and the arm wire are connected to my voltage regulator here upload_2022-5-21_14-55-0.jpeg
As you can see it’s marked. the lower stud on the generator wire is just hanging there in the right hand corner of the photo. Maybe that’s my problem?
As you can see the right leg off the generator is going to the fuse box and also to this upload_2022-5-21_14-57-29.jpeg
And that’s connected to the battery wire. I’m not sure what the cylinder junction is.

any thoughts or feedback will help this young and dumb hot rodder!

let me know what you think of the car!
Hopefully I’ll have some action shots sooon!

Hey guys. My battery is drawing power from somewhere. Do I need to ground my starter out. Stock 6v. I’m not seeing a location for ground. upload_2022-5-24_19-8-7.jpeg

And also the generator. The armature is in the back and the field is the upper stud leaving the lower stud to be the ground? upload_2022-5-24_19-7-38.jpeg

ford made a small bracket the runs from the upper starter mounting bolt up to an oilpan bolt...
helps stiffen the starter laterally which helps save flywheel tooth tips...
can get a pic if no one else has one handy...

    Hello guys.

    electrical question.
    I’m running 6v positive ground.

if I charge my battery the car fires up and we’re all good. Once I shut it down then the battery farts out and will only give me 3 or 4 turns before it’s completely dead to even crank.

    this is my wiring

Start with a simple test of running the car up to say 1500 rpm and pulling a battery cable. If it continues to run, that will at least tell you the generator is doing something.

I would also suggest going through all your grounds as well. Generator ground wire to regulator mounting bolt, then another wire from same bolt to engine ground which should be coming straight from battery. Can’t have too many grounds. Shoot, I’ve been running a ground wire on one of the mounting bolts for distributors lately.

Ok I had my generator ground sandwiched between the regulator and the body. I thought that could be a problem so I switched it to just the body.
I will put it back to what I had and I will add a lead going to the transmission.

I did pull the positive ground wire while I was running around 1500 rpm and I did NOT die.

Next test. Running at same RPM put a voltmeter across the 2 posts on battery and report back with your findings.

Took it to a car show and on the way home died with a complete dead battery. More investigations to be had.
