One of the goals I set for myself on this build was to keep the bed free of a battery and/or fuel tank. As you know, a channeled pickup doesn't leave much space anywhere else. One option was under the dash, but I chose under the cab.

I built my "x-member" with this in mind; I wanted one side to hide a battery.

The panels on my floor are removable so you can service the battery (I guess I mean replace it) without crawling under.

    Here's the battery I'm using.

Internet lore says it will work, as does the 5-second amperage rating. You can mount it on its side, which I have to do so it doesn't stick down below the frame.

Here's what I came up with. I like making unnecessarily complicated brackets :D

Tomorrow I modify my dash "Casny style" for my gauges.

Going to hold off on making holes, not sure what layout I want yet.

I am building a 30/31 truck as well and am loving following your build. I'm picking lots of ideas from what you are doing and your great craftsmanship. I really like what you did with the dash and gauges. Neat solution!

Cool, thanks for the compliment! do you have a build thread?

I stole the dash/gauge idea from Chris Casny; he did the same thing on his coupe, which is one of my all time favorite cars.

Looks good, I like how much detail you post. My driver's door does the same thing.

Not sure! I am updating mine now. You are ahead in areas I am not. That is for sure. I will be blowing it apart this week so I can finish the frame. Driving it to vegas the end of the month. Nothin like a good test drive!

Tryin to load pix now.. but photobucket sux!

Holy shit if you're driving it the end of the month you must be ahead! It still looks reasonable for me to be driving by May 11th. Keep up the progress, I'll be checking for updates.

Still knee deep in carburetor parts plus I'm trying to get my 49 back on the road so won't be much progress this weekend.

Aaron that is some seriously nice fabrication. Hope you make your done by date, which given your pace should be possible, and will be following closely.

Congratulations, looking forward to pictures. I've been out of the state on business since last week, so updates on mine will start next weekend.

Small update, it's not going well. I got sick (still am), traveled for work, excuses, excuses.

I started on my pickup bed, took most of it apart and took out 7".

Started rebuilding the rear cross-support stamping.

I don't have all the detail pictures but it's all tacked together. I set it on my frame and I think it's sitting too high. Would like your feedback on that, I'm operating in a vacuum.

Bought some Firestones today and got my wheels back from the powder coater, pics later.

  25. It's tough to say if the bed is too high until you put all the wheels/tires on and set it on the ground. Then sit on a chair 20 ft away and have a look. :)

I like it, I think the 7.50 x 16" tires sort of balance it out. What do you guys think?

I think it looks great with the bed at that height. The top of the bed follows the belt line nicely.

Thanks guys, yeah I think it looks pretty good. The next question is how much chop. It'll be somewhere between 4" and 5".
