I just bought this survivor coupe from a guy in New York. His story is that a guy name Jerry Burdick built the coupe in his garage in 1956 and was the original owner until the guy I bought it from bought it...it has many 40's and 50's donor parts, and a 46 or 48 merc flathead..all the speed equipment is old school orig stuff...I'm trying to run down some history on this coupe..I'd love to find Jerry Burdick ,the builder, and ask him some history on it..if anyone here knows him please let me know.He was living in Olean New York when he built the coupe...not sure where he is now...heres some pics...maybe somebody will recognize it
Information I found: Family History Jerry E Burdick (1921 - 2001) was born on March 27, 1921. He was born into the Burdick family. He died on September 12, 2001 at 80 years old. Jerry E Burdick's last known residence is at Wellsville, Allegany County, New York.
The plan is not to change anything at all...I know the exaust needs work, and I may need to lower the seat a bit...but thats it
That steering wheel style was apparently quite popular on later 50s builds...is it 56 Ford wheel? cool find .
it still is sporting the blue lacquer paint job it had in 1959...it also has bobbed front fenders that I want to reinstall
Must be a different Jerry Burdick..seems to be a popular name...he is supposedly still living and sold the car to the previous owner in 2014...he was from Olean NY
No kidding... This car reminded me so much of a local Hambers A roadster, built/painted same blue in Ohio,1959...channeled, and cycle fenders. Dang I forgot what steering wheel his has' That's wild about all the 56 Ford parts. .
this must be painted in acrylic lacquer as theres no yellowing from clearcoats...the car sat in a heated garage from 1972 till 2012 when Jerry decided to have the motor rebuilt so he could sell the car
Thr rear end and suspension are from a 40 ford as is the steering box..the front suspension is 46 ford...the flathead is a 49 merc..tranny is a 38 ford with 39 zephyr gears
This must be the one I seen on bring a trailer last year, or it has a twin ! What a sweet find, I'm subscribed, good luck on the history hunt ! Congrats !
Sorry I meant the website "bringatrailer" your car looks identical to a Model A I seen on there last year for sale... might have it saved, I'll check for you when I get home.
Ya welcome to the club! Funny, the car is still on Cl in Greenpoint Brooklyn. I've been watching it. Great score. You are lucky you have the history!
Here's the BringaTrailer article attaching to HAMB ad; http://bringatrailer.com/2013/10/02/period-built-1930-ford-5-window-hot-rod/ Link to 2013 ad is now broken.
I just bought it this week, so he probably hasn't thought of removing that CL listing..I should get the car in my possession by next Wednesday..it leaves Brooklyn on Saturday
I just read the old ad and here is a quote from the seller at that time" ". We;d figure out a way to drop the headlights down and massage the grille shell for a cleaner look" Ok, so it's a free country to say your opinions, but this stuff being considered on an old survivor makes me want to toss the computer away ..mainly because they won't stop there; the car will get unchanneled, get a 32 frame, etc...and it will blend in with all the other trend cars Geez, so few have survived with features that look out of fashion to MOST people, but if you want a 2010 sheeple build with huge WW2 searchlights, just build one from scratch, and leave these old cars alone. Ok, I will go get my meds.. .
