Does anyone know if you can use the 1930-31 Brookville lower cowl post brace ( A1010BLB) in a coupe? I've been looking for replacement braces for a while with no luck other than the Brookville pieces. I contacted Brookville and they responded that the post braces they carry are for open cars. They also said that the braces are different between the roadster and the coupe but they thought that their pieces could be modified to work. Apparently no one makes the brace specifically for the coupe.

I would like to know if anyone has used these braces in a coupe and some info on how you altered them to fit. Thanks for any help you can offer.

  2. no help...but looking at the ones in my `30 coupe i agree those look like they could be modified to work

maybe just use as a patch for originals that are rotted out on the bottom?

Thanks for the reply 36-3window. I originally was planning to do just that, but the bottoms of mine are so butchered and welded-in that I can't make out what the profile should look like.

Got some information that might help someone else. Contacted Flop on this thread and he said the Brookville braces would work in a coupe, they are just a little thinner in the pillar area. Thank you Flop.

Joe, thanks for the pics, it looks like you just used the 'bottoms' of the Brookville braces and welded them to the existing braces, is that correct?

RB35, no go on Bratton's but thanks for the suggestion.

Sloppy jalopies, thanks for the offer, I think I'm going to try the Brookville pieces. Appreciate the gesture.

Used the Bottom 3 or 4 inches. The Brookville piece is grafted onto the original A pillar. The white enameled tubing was just welded on as a brace to keep everything lined up. Doors are hung and it fits together well.

Thanks Joe, I'll need to use the whole brace because mine are rotted from top to bottom. Hope they fit.
