Projects 1928 Model A RPU

  1. Recently acquired this beauty. Looks like someone was pretty far into a restoration. I know it was in storage for 38 years up until a month ago. Pretty well complete, no rust, no damage, all original stuff on it. My first course of action was to get it running, which I did, and it runs awesome. I need it to pass an inspection to get it legal. After that, I'm not sure. It runs so well I'm inclined to keep the 4 banger in it. I don't even mind the mechanical brakes. It definitely sits way too high for my liking. Also dont care much for the 21's. I'd love to hear what you guys would do?

    Make it driveable and use it. So many quirky features you will either love or hate.

    I nearly rushed into tearing mine apart to rod it but glad i didn't.

    Congrats, that's a gorgeous truck...Extremely envious.
    If it were mine, I'd slap on some 35 wires, slightly lower the front and call it a day.

    When I bought my coupe it passed the inspection as is so I drove it stock for the first summer before deciding which way to proceed. I wasn't feeling the banger so I went with the original plan. V8, lowered, juice brakes etc. So get it running try it out and see what you think. I also thought that made it easier to pass the inspection.

    I love it! I'm a bit biased though. I am working on the same only not quite as cherry.

    yes 35 - 16" wires and lower the front end is a good start.

    I found that after I installed the smaller wheels and tires on the front I had to remove the front bumper because it was sticking way out front and looked goofy. Remove 2-3 leaves from the front spring will bring the front down pretty good (at least for a start) and it’s free. You can only go so low if you are going to keep the front fenders. I found that just sticking with a good sizes tire in back and a smaller low profile tire in front helped the stance a lot and it also allows you to lower the front more because the smaller tires create clearance between the tire and fender. I can’t recall the size right now but I used a rear tire that was big enough to have the same diameter as the original so my final drive ratio and the same. I used used soft radial tires because they were cheap, I personally like the look over bias ply’s, make for a softer ride.
