Sam made a new copper gas tank for a 1915 Stutz Bearcat. Here is a few photos and a link of the video on how it was made from start to finish. Should the tank be unpainted and polished or painted?

Nice job. I think it would be hard to keep polished in area's you can't easily reach, so, paint.
What are the knock off wheels, Houck, or Dayton?

    Certainly, not paint.
    Polished.
    But not machine polished.
    Hand polished.
    Not to a high degree.

Periodic polishing of the tank can be one of those mindless enjoyable maintenance tasks. Like brushing a horse. Not critical, but reason enough for getting a little more involved.

  10. Paint it. Copper is just construction material.

(Nice job by they way :))

I agree, I would leave it polished for a little while then paint the ends black and nickel the middle but will see

Lot of talent to build a tank like that. I would of rolled that seam down out of sight.
    I`d paint it.
    Neat car.

No way I would paint that... Copper is too pretty polished.

Here's an old outboard I restored. Painted before, copper after.

Nice job! Nice to see inside a "Restoration Shop" once in a while. Paint the tank, why is the car yellow, Red is a Stutz color. Bob

  19. If for whatever reason the seam may leak one day, better to have it at the top.

Hi, it's our shop in Elk Grove Village IL. I'll have to check that place out online, are they still in business?

  24. Bob's retired now, and I think his son Rob is in charge. Bob (and his brother Dick's) father was a founder of the AACA, so restoration is in their blood :D
