Hot Rods 17" C1 Corvette steering wheel in hot rod pictures please

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by kidcampbell71, Oct 18, 2019.

  1. Typed in every combination possible.

Corvette steering wheel, C1 steering wheel, etc. Even checked the Googles. Is this an untenable thought to use this wheel in a 1930's era hot rod cabin ?

Have an original 17 inch 1960 Corvette steering wheel, to be sent to Pearlcraft. Don't want to do that, unless I know, whether it should be cut down to 15 or 16 inch diameter.

I also have a blemished 15" repop', bought cheap ... but would prefer to use the OEM 17 incher to be white pearl chipped. ( not a paint process )

Figured it would be a popular wheel, but evidently not within the confines of a 30's era interior. Anyone ?

Edit : Positive, everyone knows what they look like. Picture added from the interweb.

  2. Not much help, but I remember seeing early Vette steering wheels used in hot rods back in the 1960s Hot Rod magazines. So they were used, but just don't remember on what cars.

  4. DAMN. Did I mis-spell "C1" or something ? How the heck ya' find those ? Memory recall, or what ? @Sancho

Will come back and read those, later today. Thank you sir !

Bump for more. Want to check door clearances to wheel. Stock 17 inch size, preferably. Looks close in the above pictures, but then again, that other pic' ... it looks fine.

Nice. J always liked those wheels.
  7. @alfin32 Would that wheel clearance your doors, if installed in one of your coupes or roadsters ? Asking for a friend.

I like that style of wheel but didn't think it would work in my 31 A so I used one which looks similar. I am not small and the wheel is just under 15 inches. If it were any bigger there might be clearance issues with the door and me getting in! Don't know if this helps you or not?

    1. Connecticut HAMB'ers

most stock 30's cars/pickups use a 17" wheel. it should work fine.

  11. Yeah, unless you have a belly like mine. On my Model A truck, the wheel to door was fine, but the wheel to belly had a definite clearance problem...
