I don't think I've ever seen a crank driven blower application outside of drag racing... You know what they say, Bocar or no car... sorry, couldn't help myself.
This looks like Road America. Photo from "Tam's Old Race Car Site" http://www.tamsoldracecarsite.net/
Sweet baby speed racer Jesus. that’s very fucking cool. I wonder if our resident old film footage junky @Jive-Bomber can dig up some footage of it tearing by? It feels like it’s got to exist somewhere right?
These are all supposed to be Road America 1963 USRRC/RA 500. Not sure why number is different, also note skirts went away. pics courtesy a post by D. Schrimpf
There's great footage of the race, but I didn't see any shots of the Bocar. It DNF'd early. Sorry to go slightly off topic, but I cannot help but note that Augie Pabst started this race in the Mecom Ferrari co-driving with Penske, then switched cars (and teams!) to relieve Bill Wuesthoff in the Elva Porsche and take it to victory over the Holbert/Miles Cobra.
It does not seem right that a blown 283 runs class c/m - c modified. What other cars in that class and what cars ran b/m or a/m?
Elegant Monster...love the pics...the humor...makes me think of the Jet Age...also what else was relative in 63...
I had a book (someone never returned) that had a chapter on Bob Carnes and his Bocars. I recall the Stiletto being his mad scientist effort in the chapter and the reference to it's brute power but little else. Now I need to get another copy. Carnes looked like Drew Carey's dad. No, seriously. Good stuff Ryan. If I get another copy I'll message you...
Holey moley. What a hoot it must have been to show up at the drags in that thing and crank off an 11 second pass.
Wow. You guys are great. Thank you for all of the exposure for this awesome car. I buy and sell for collectors and I am also representing the last Bocar made- an XP 7R supercharged car that I will send to Ryan to post.
Let's have a Hamb group buy -in, then have a Hamb Lottery. I have no idea on the asking price, but think of the possibilities..
