Well I guess that's as close to a Cacklefest as your going to get where you are...and quite frankly that's probably a good thing......Art is everywhere and hey just when you least expect Hotrod Pumps up the Paddlefest...Hope all is well and have lots of fun WAY out there on the Land of Pahoehoe...

When we were looking for transportation, we checked out several cars in the local Kapaa neighborhoods. I took this photo in a grassy field in Kapaa and thought it was a 32 Ford Sedan as told to us by a neighbor. Our HAMB resident Dodge expert, Ron F. says it is a Dodge sedan, based on the door sills and surrounding trim. Hello, Nice story on that strip mall store in Kapaa. One of our old haunts was a small funky strip mall store/restaurant called Ben Franklin. There are Ben Franklin stores all over Hawaii Islands, but the store/restaurant in Kauai is missing. On the way to the Kauai’s South Shore and those empty waves for us, there was the outrageous waterfall and huge natural pool. ON THE PREVIOUS POST, I SHOWED THIS PLACE: This has to be a disclaimer as there was an article that says it is a deadly place to visit, located on private property. "KIPU FALLS LIHUE, Hawaii (Associated Press) — Travel guidebooks call Kipu Falls “a glorious little hidden place” and a “swimming hole extraordinaire.” But the alluring beauty of the waterfall and natural pool conceals a deadly side." "Five visitors have drowned at Kipu Falls in the past five years, including two since December. In most of the cases, the swimmers jumped off the top of the waterfall into the pool of blue-green water about 20 feet below, then were pulled to their deaths while attempting to swim to the shore. Others have suffered chest injuries, rope burns, perforated eardrums and broken and sprained ankles. A teenage girl was paralyzed after jumping there." VNAK PHOTO We had fun there, but the scene was over 50 years ago. So, there were less people and a few locals took us on the trail. Since then, the publicity has been on tourist maps and flyers. It is now considered closed and dangerous, SO, IT IS NOT A PLACE TO VISIT. The road through a 1962 Rambler window... But, on the way to our secret spots that we found on the South Shore, this is what the local hot rodders and surfers see everyday on their roadtrips there. We arrived at the coastline and saw this empty beach. We called it "Longboat," as there was an old wooden longboat canoe wrecked, sitting on the shore. The paddle was over a half mile out and it was an amazing spot. The big South Swells were hitting just perfectly on the reef. The thing was, if you rode the fast, hollow wave and got creamed somewhere on the ride, your board got washed toward the beach. But, for the surfers, it was a short swim to get your board. A half mile swim? No, it was very short, as the waves leveled off, the white water did not carry the board all the way to the rocky shoreline. There was a deep water channel running parallel to the shore and that kept the swimming distance, short, but tricky. We were lucky, our newly created, rubber, medical tubing, homemade leashes did the trick until they snapped. No swimming for us, until that last huge overhead wave just pulled so hard that the leash stretched out to the extreme and snapped. It was a short, but, scary swim in the deep water current and what ever was below us, being a half mile out. Vnak photo 10 foot plus, ½ mile away from the shoreline. If there is a place to take a vacation, Kauai has it for sure. Enjoy your vacation, with and without hot rods. If you surf, there is one last secret spot that is probably not secret anymore, but was located on a military base on that Southern shoreline. (Near Waimea.) Jnaki Just found this photo taken from our friends house where we stayed for 30 days one summer, a long time ago. (Ektachrome color 35mm slide film. Rust never sleeps, but color never fades when digitized.) The empty lot across the street from where we stayed was for sale for $12k. Value mathematically, $84k, by todays standards. (it sold the following summer to a local, for $40k) SHEESH...
