  3. Truly art. Lack of a windshield makes it so tough. Stance is right on.

The best thing about a car like this is that it will only get better aesthetically as it gets driven...

The only thing I'd change....bench seat. Other than that, pure perfection. Damn nice car. And you're right @Ryan It'll only get better.

    I'm a fan too!

Hey Legendary, what is the generator from? Looks like a handy thing with the built-in tach take-off.

I have seen tractor generators with tach drives, I wonder if it is one of those

I thought this was a reflection from a McDonalds at first. I wondered if it slipped by Tom Davidson somehow. I'm such a dumb ass. Guess I need some new glasses too!

This car was built for Lars by Clayton's Hot Rods of Santa Cruz, CA. To see more of his work, and other cars he's built for Lars, check out claytonshotrods.com.

  15. Amazing engine! ... Bitchin’ highboy! ... Interesting choice using the commercial grille shell (i.e., I’m warming up to it).

    What a little darlin'

  17. You know I like it! My kind of roadster for sure. The commercial grill does look good. Hot Rod the way it should be and great coverage. Thanks.

This is my new favorite car. It has a European flavor too it that really ties all my automotive interests together. Imagine opening a garage in 40 years and seeing this a little chipped up, a perfectly worn in interior and slightly tarnished. Oh man. Perfect.

If that car had leather covers on the bomber seats that could wear in like an old catchers mit my head would pop off my neck.

  20. I am with you on the seat. I'm too old for that hard surface.

Some clarification... After publishing this one, I got to work this morning doing other stuff. Then, I gotta call from Tim Sutton. He wanted to make sure Clayton's Hot Rods got credit for the build. I wasn't aware and suddenly felt really bad about not listing that. So, I called Clay and got square with him and made sure the feature listed his shop as the builder.

Shortly after I got this email from Lars:

    ***
So essentially, I probably put this feature together too quickly. Buck stops here kind of thing... But I'm kind of glad it went down like it did as I got to catch up with Tim a little on the phone, got to talk to Clay a bit about the car, and everyone seems happy.

When you are a hermit like me, it's easy to forget how great hot rod people are. This morning, I was reminded...

    Wow.
Three things that make me melt.
The Detail, the Stance and that Banger. Perfect 1940’s theme. Good job Lars.

So, @Ryan bottom line is it takes a special team of people (builders, owner, etc...) to make a truly significant hot rod. The team that pulled this car off, IMHO, brought back a chunk of history in spectacular fashion.

Any idea what the headlights are?

  27. Gotta get that car to the F.A.S.T. drags at Santa Margarita Ranch, this year. I believe it is THE Race for 4 bangers, these days. I'd love to hear the thing at full song.
